FREE TIMBER WOOD πŸͺ΅

This estate in Haggerston was removing the cedar panel cladding from its exterior, and the developers kindly agreed to donate it to the Garden of Earthly Delights and the Dream Green Dalston Lane project.

Seng and Ellen collected a van load of timber (about 3X the amount on the trolley!) for reuse as planters, furniture, boarders and more πŸͺš

πŸ‘·πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ They also met a fellow guerrilla gardener! Construction worker Eddie came to ask what the timber was being used for, and pointed across the canal to where he and his friend () had created a guerrilla garden on the towpath!

🌿

Image 1: a boat full of timber floats on the canal
Image 2: the wooden panels half-removed from the building’s facade, surrounded by scaffolding
Image 3: Seng gives a smile and a thumbs up with a trolley full of cedar planks
Image 4: a selfie of Ellen in a rear view street mirror, standing in the loading bay with the trolley

We love how dream green …

πŸͺ Making streets more community-focused over car-dominated

🚲 Making active transport an easier choice for everyone

🌳 Making cities greener, healthier and happier in the process

They say β€œWhile it’s an ambitious goal, it’s the one which inspires us to dream big”

β€œNever Knowingly Undersoiled” – John B.

Shots from our Big Soil Move action with members πŸ’₯

πŸƒπŸ»β€β™‚οΈ GoodGym is a community of people who get fit by doing good. These legends carried a literal ton of soil on their backs, 17 minutes up Mare Street, to create the foundations for a new community garden πŸ…

πŸ“’ *Love Island Voice* TONIGHT…

Join us for some group guerrilla gardening

⏰ 7PM – 8PM
πŸ“Hackney, E8

πŸ… THE PROJECT πŸ…
Over the summer, we’ll be transforming this 15 metre strip of bare soil into a thriving patch of plant life – designed for and by the local community.

🧀TODAY’S ACTION 🧀
Local nature-loving workspace, Second Home have kindly donated a huge bag of topsoil to the Dalston Lane community garden project πŸͺ΄

We’ll be taking sacks of topsoil 17 minutes up the road in rubble sacks and large rubber buckets (which we’ll provide) to its new home!

πŸ₯¬ The topsoil will provide the essential foundations for the garden, which will brighten local mental and physical health, bring the community together, and support local biodiversity 🌼

Over the past few months, we asked YOU to transform your neighbourhoods from grey to green. 🌿

We were SO impressed by the competition entries but could only pick five winners. πŸŒŸβ€¨
These guerrilla gardens tick all the boxes, from reimagining public space to 🌳 greening nature-deprived estates, from reclaiming abandoned lots for the health of the community ✊🏼 to adding a splash of colour 🌼 to a monochrome high street.

Our winners are:

1. Edinburgh’s Secret Garden – a reclaimed abandoned garden that aims to demonstrate how the community should have a stake in land use. .gardener

2. Adelaide House – an estate-wide transformation and re-greening of a nature-deprived area that began as a one-man lockdown project.Β

3. – proof that guerrilla gardening doesn’t always have to be big n bold but can start with the simple transformation of the street outside your door.Β

4. – taking a stand against the greyification of our cities by creating a pollinator corridor of planted tree beds along the high street.

5. Lewes FC – a project that emphasises what can be done if we reimagine public space and put an edible garden anywhere. .club

🌟 Introducing the judges of the Dream Green 🌟

πŸŒ»πŸŽ‰ Stay tuned. We will be announcing the winners of our guerrilla gardening competition this week. We can’t wait to share our top 5 standout projects. 🌿

πŸ‘©πŸ½β€πŸŒΎ Judging our entries is the excellent horticulturist and outdoor educator β€” the author and gardener and environmental writer

🌍 As we hold a collective breath and rally around the activists, organisers and changemakers gathering in Glasgow for we want you to remember this statement from Robin Wall Kimmerer.

β€œPeople often ask me what one thing I would recommend to restore the relationship between land and people. My answer is almost always, β€œPlant a garden.” 🌱

And if you want to bring nature back into your city and fight environmental injustice, then plant a guerrilla garden. πŸ’ͺ🏾✊🏼
