Your living room, dining room, and family room are the areas where your family gets together the most and where you welcome your visits too.

These spaces serve a variety of functions. We want them to be comfortable, practical, and welcoming places where we can greet guests and also relax for a family game night. They should also make us feel joyful and at ease.

It does not take a lot of work to improve the look and feel of your living spaces.

A little decluttering, cleaning and organisation will ensure these rooms continue to be the stars of your home.

With that in mind, here are the steps you will need to tackle each of these living spaces.

1- Start by evaluating the space and removing anything that doesn't belong there. Gather them in a container and place them where they belong.

2- One by one, go through your cabinets, side tables, bookcases, consoles, toys, etc.

The three-bin approach can be used to select whether to keep, bin or store items when you take them out. Just bear in mind to place anything you wish to keep back on your shelves or in your cabinets. Items you want to rid of, recycle, donate, or bin. Place the objects you wish to store in the space you have allocated for storage (in the garage, basement, loft, etc)

3- Clean the interior of cupboards, shelves, and tables before placing items back.

4- Put games, remote controls, electronic devices, random stuff, and charging cords in decorative baskets and boxes.

Even though we adore new storage bins and baskets, it is definitely feasible to become organised without spending any money if you know how.

Making life easier is the main idea of organising, and doing so does not necessarily require spending a lot of money.

In fact, one of the most frequent mistakes people make is when organising their homes, they get carried away with too many containers or baskets that do not truly fit their bathroom cabinet drawers or kitchen shelves, resulting in wasted space and frustration.

Sorting through your belongings and getting rid of anything you don't use or adore is the first step to a really organised home.

Clutter represents delayed decisions and will hinder all of your organising efforts by making it more difficult to maximise your space. Therefore, it's essential to set aside the time for a thorough purge.

You will wind up with empty storage boxes and containers as a result of the process.

Decluttering is the first step towards organising without spending any money. You will have less stuff to organise if you declutter first, which is the first good reason to do!

Remember, You will require fewer storage bins and organising tools if you have fewer possessions.

The second reason is that after you purge your space of clutter, you will probably empty a lot of containers that you could have used for other purposes.

Kids bedrooms are often used as the multi-taskers rooms of the home including sleeping area, play-space, study and storage for clothes and toys leading to a very cluttered area.

A cluttered room is not welcoming, not even for children and it can cause stress and loss of control.

Once the kids realise what is excessive, they will be ready to declutter and subsequently they will end up feeling a sense of freedom and serenity in a quiet, clean and comfortable space that they can completely unwind in.

Above there is an example of items that you can start decluttering but there is a lot more, ask your child what bothers them the most in their space, let them guide you on what is most important for them to declutter first, take your time, its a journey!

A Donation box, basket or bag can be a permanent addition in your home to make it a habit of getting rid of items that you no longer use, like or does not fit you.

Then, and just as important as having and placing things in this box is to regularly empty it, by donating the items for example to local charity shops.

The bathroom is a great place to find clutter when you are on a mission to declutter your life.

It is common for people to find their bathroom the most difficult room in the home to declutter and organise because is shared by everyone in the family.

However, a well-organised bathroom is easier to clean and keep clean and feels more spacious than one that is cluttered with the belongings of everyone in the family.

If you are ready to declutter your bathroom for good then you can start by decluttering the above items to help you accomplish that goal.

And unlike other rooms in the house, this one is excellent to deep clean while you declutter.
To get the most out of your bathroom decluttering, wipe clean shelves and countertops before putting anything you are saving away.

Finally, to help keep clutter at bay so you do not have to keep decluttering all the time you should work on creating an organisation system that works both for you and your family.

To help you declutter and organise any closet in your home, it is helpful to first decide for yourself, what the functions of that specific closet are.

We often use closet space for multi purposes, including holding coats, shoes, hobby items and weather clothing gear like gloves, scarves and winter hats.
In addition, other stuff is also often found in this type of closet, such as large cleaning equipment like the vacuum, holiday decorations and also broken items that we store in there in the hope to fix it in a near future (usually it doesn’t happen)

Start by taking everything out and decide what you want to keep, donate and bin.

After decluttering, get ready to organise the closet by putting only the items you decided to keep in that closet.

The entryway closet is a very convenient place to keep coats so I suggest you only add some of the other additional stuff into this space after placing all coats, and jackets in the closet followed by shoes and winter clothing gear, all fitting into the space without becoming too jam packed in there.

Your bedroom is a sanctuary for relaxation, tranquilly and comfort.

However, if you have clutter all over, it could be challenging to accomplish that.
Do not give up hope if you are struggling with clutter; you are not alone.

Major contributors to bedroom
clutter include lack of time and feeling overburdened.
Whatever the root of your bedroom clutter, there are quick, simple and efficient solutions to clear it out.

Before you start your bedroom decluttering session always make your bed first to give you a sense of more space to sort things out.

Then choose 3 type of items that you would like to go through, for example:

1: Out-of-Season clothing
2: Old or incomplete bedding
3: Worn out or unworn shoes

And start by making piles for the things you to keep and stay in your bedroom, a pile of items you want to keep but needs to go to another room and stuff that you want to get rid of/donate for good.

Next, move/organise all the items you are keeping to their designated areas and remove the items you are donating/bin out of your house and take them to their respective end places.

Lastly, look around and enjoy how your bedroom feels peaceful and it is an enjoyable space to be in!

The kitchen is one area that manages to accumulate all kinds of clutter from post on the counter, expired food in the pantry, water bottles and kitchen appliances packed in the cabinets.

From time to time, you need to go through what you own and declutter your kitchen.

You can start with a small project of 7 days where you find 1-2 hrs a day to declutter.

Choose the areas that are causing you the most distress.
The main ones for people are:

1: The Fridge
Usually this is one of the biggest projects.

Start by removing everything from the fridge, give it a good thorough clean and check all of the expiry dates before you start putting things back inside.
Try to organise foods by category.

2: Drawers and utensils
Start by removing everything from your kitchen drawers.

Keep:
- the same kind of silverware instead of mismatched sets.
- a couple of spoons and spatulas it’s enough, no ore than that
- only gadgets you actually use like vegetable peeler

After decluttering, clean out the drawers and get everything organised so that you can find it quickly and easily while cooking.

3: Cabinets & small appliances
Start from removing everything from the kitchen cabinets that have small appliances in it.

If you haven’t used a specific appliance for over a year it’s probably time to let it go…

Organise everything back on shelves by category so it is easy for you to find it when needed.

And remember to always allocate 10 min daily for the evening to tidy up your kitchen counters so it always looks tidy and you go to sleep in a more relaxed and calm state!
