Throwback to the stripping of the existing roof in late 2019 on our project to extend the ScotsCare Charity’s Rothesay Court residential care home, in Lewisham. To provide additional flats to the three-storey building the existing pitched roof was replaced with a new floor, in the form of a mansard roof construction. This required a 1000m2 temporary roof during construction, as shown in these photos. That’s a lot of scaffold!

Completed whilst the building was occupied, and during the first lockdown in 2020, we worked closely with Hale to ensure the safety and comfort of the residents during construction. Despite these complexities we succeeded in delivering the project safely and on-budget.

In 2015 we were appointed to design a proposal for the restoration, extension, and conversion of this 1838 Italianate-style Grade II listed house into a country house hotel and spa. To financially aid the restoration, four new pavilions providing additional accommodation, and seven new four-bed villas, were also designed as part of the initial scheme on the 11 acre site. The new landscaping included a piazza garden with seating and fountains, a terrace off the restaurant overlooking the grounds, a new walled garden, and a bat house. The design of the house included reinstatement of original features such as the towers, and colonnade. Model by

In 2015 we produced a feasibility study for the development of the Broadway Theatre in Barking. 3 strategies for achieving the brief of additional studio space were investigated, with extending the building with an additional floor yielding the most functional space. The existing steel structure would enable a large extension incorporating multiple rehearsal spaces with changing facilities, a new rooftop bar and terrace, and relocation of the theatre offices.
The use of translucent or opaque materials in the design of the new extension would maximise diffuse light to the rehearsal spaces and offices. Furthermore, this kind of facade would increase the presence of the theatre through a canvas which outwardly communicates the ongoing internal activities, one that could also utilise coloured lighting or projection in the evening.

Site photos from our detached home project in St Albans, which is nearing completion on its current phase.

The extensive works to the house include: replacing the existing conservatory with a part-two storey rear extension; converting the loft and raising the ridge height; new rooflights and replacement windows; and replacement of the existing front porch. With only the front and side walls being retained, the internal layout has been completely redesigned to meet our client’s brief and improve how the house works for the family.

We will also be converting the garage to a garden room, and re-landscaping the garden, with new seating and eating areas, and flower beds.

Practical completion has been achieved on the construction of a development comprising 8 new flats, and 2 commercial office units.
The brief to design a mixed-use development presented a number of challenges due to the restrictive urban plot. Despite these restrictions the site was ideal for new homes due to strong transport links and local infrastructure. Construction by Kuropatwa -
