Sweet potatoes look tropical, but they're surprisingly easy to grow in the UK if you give them warmth, sunshine and rich soil.
Today I'm planting Beauregard Improved slips into a bed in the polytunnel loaded with compost. I plant them deep enough to bury several nodes along the stem, then water them in well and let them get established before they really take off.
The secret isn't complicated. Warm soil, consistent watering and a long growing season. That's it.
If you've never grown sweet potatoes before, give them a go. They're productive, taste fantastic and there's nothing better than digging up a crop of your own sweet potatoes at the end of summer.
Are you growing sweet potatoes this year?
