Another Self Portrait but this time working it up from some old photos of myself. Sometimes it's necessary to work from photos as portrait artists and although its not an ideal way to work it can be good practice to understand how to interpret a photo.

My portrait of Hugh Bonneville a work still in progress. I am not happy with this portrait currently and trying to correct the issues - I had some great feedback from portrait artist friend June Mendoza and sometimes it can really help to get a fresh pair of eyes looking at your work ....so lets see.

The royal Society of Portrait Painters annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries, a few photos from the private view night.
The exhibition has now closed but here are just a few of my favorite works from the show including what I consider one of the best Portraits of the Queen by Portrait Painter and friend June Mendoza, exhibited here at the Mall Galleries in Honor of the Queens Platinum Jubilee.

I recently had the pleasure of catching up with the immensely talented Portrait Artist June Mendoza at her home. You could be forgiven for thinking that the portrait that she painted behind her is of Actor Emma Watson it is in fact June's Daughter. Apparently I am not the first person to comment on the uncanny similarity. What do you think?

Paint mixing time: Using some Chinese Vermilion paint powder that I purchased from Zecchi's Art shop in Florence, Italy.
It is one of the most hazardous paints to mix due to it's Mercury content so wear suitable protective gear (mask & gloves) if you are considering mixing this paint powder.
I find that there is something very satisfying about mixing your own paint.
