BEFORE/AFTER - Personally I’m not a huge fan of open shelving in the kitchen as the stored items can gather dust and grime and create visual clutter. However, if you like it as an option, aim to make the space as functional as possible, use items that match and store things that you use frequently so that they rotate and stay clean.

I will admit that having mismatched hangers in a closet (especially the white wire ones from the dry cleaners) is my pet peeve. A good hanger can save space in your closet, make both getting dressed and putting away your clothes easier and even extend the longevity of your garments. There are so many different options and materials in the market which don’t need to break the bank. As a professional organizer I usually suggest the thin velvet hangers to my clients.

BEFORE/AFTER - Just because your closet has been designed a certain way, doesn’t mean that it can’t be adjusted to suit your needs. Having shelves when you’re more of a drawer person, can be fixed by using storage baskets. Storage baskets can serve as mini drawers and can be pulled out or moved around as you please. You can separate your clothes into categories and use one basket for each, such as jumpers, jeans, gym clothes, underwear etc. Folding your clothes and storing them vertically within the basket makes it much easier to see everything and pick out what you want. Not into folding? No problem. You can throw everything in a basket and your closet will still look nice and tidy.

Most days we get out the door in a hurry so it’s very important to have essentials like keys, wallets and sunglasses easily accessible. Utilising his/hers key trays does the trick. Personally I like hiding these away for an uncluttered look, perhaps in a designated drawer by the entryway. No more looking for your keys all around the house :-)

I love these elegant oil dispensers! They hold a good amount of liquid and have clear measurements so you can easily follow recipes without additional kitchen instruments. They’re brilliant for oil and vinegar but can be used for other liquids as well such as sauces, cooking wine etc.
