At nearly 3 metres, yes I think this is the longest bespoke bench seat that I've designed. It fits perfectly into the wide alcove of this Ealing apartment and provides ample seating for entertaining. It also provides a lot of really useful storage under the seat - something that's often forgotten in apartment designs. Thanks to Tim for making the joinery
And Zanda for probably one of the longest seat cushions 😁

For the article, I was asked for some professional advice on designing indoor/outdoor spaces, and how to make a seamless connection to the outdoors.

Here are some of the tips below:-

1. Key design elements for a seamless indoor–outdoor space

A seamless space relies on continuity rather than having contrast. This can relate to having the same flooring running inside to outside and having a unified style of lighting and furniture both inside and outside. Also, having level thresholds between inside and outside will make the journey and sightlines between spaces seamless.

2. Creating the effect without bi-fold doors or a large garden

I have found that a good trick for this is having plants or a mainly green colour palette inside which helps blur the lines between both spaces. It creates the effect of ‘pulling’ the garden inside. This can be used in areas without direct access to a garden space and can be used equally well on upper floor levels or apartments balconies.

3. Biggest mistakes and how to avoid them

I would say that some common errors are treating the design of the outdoor space as an afterthought rather than blending it with the interior space, ignoring climate practicality and having mismatching styles. If you think of the outdoor space as an extension of your indoor living space while considering comfort, durability, climate practicality and maintaining consistent design language, you can’t go wrong.

Enjoyed an interesting guided walk through Pimlico recently, uncovering the rich architectural heritage of this distinctive London neighbourhood.

The 19th-century master builder Thomas Cubitt played a pivotal role in shaping Pimlico's elegant streetscape, as well as many other notable areas across London. From its beautiful garden squares to its graceful white stucco terraces and colonnades, the neighbourhood remains a showcase of thoughtful urban design.

We also explored some of Pimlico's celebrated 20th-century developments, including Dolphin Square, the iconic Neo-Georgian housing estate that has been home to an extraordinary cast of residents over the years, including former Prime Minister Harold Wilson, former Conservative leader William Hague, James Bond creator Ian Fleming, Princess Anne and Christine Keeler.

A fascinating afternoon of architecture, history and design inspiration in one of West London's most charming neighbourhoods. 🌿

This is the Part 2 of our Chiswick townhouse refurbishment project. This shows some before and after shots of the entrance hall, master bedroom, guest bedroom and son’s bedroom. We had been commissioned by the client to help him and his family after recently moving into a four-bedroom three storey modern townhouse in Chiswick, west London. Although the property was in great condition, the décor felt a little sterile and bland.

I’ve explained in the photos what needed to be done to address the issues of each room. Hope you find it interesting and agree that the rooms look truly transformed. (This project was a shortlisted finalist in the SBID International Design Awards).

If you’re in London or the surrounding areas and dreaming about taking your home from before to after, do get in touch and we can discuss how we can transform your home too!

Looking for a little bit of inspiration ? This is Part 1 Before & Afters to give an insight into our Chiswick home refurbishment project. We were commissioned to help a client and his family who had moved into a recently refurbished four-bedroom three storey modern townhouse in Chiswick, west London. Although the property was in great condition, the décor felt a little sterile and bland. The focus of the project was therefore to add much needed colour, pattern and texture to create interesting, warm and elegant spaces. (This project was a short-listed finalist in the SBID International Design Awards).

If you’re in London or the surrounding areas and dreaming about taking your home from before to after, let’s chat!

After the recent completion of this interior design project in Ealing, which began in August last year, it was so lovely to read this testimonial from the client on Houzz. Full testimonial can be read on my page on Houzz – see link here https://www.houzz.co.uk/viewReview/2220553/studio-95-interiors-review

My collaborative approach ensures each point of the brief is addressed and the client feels supported and confident to make design decisions. The aim is also to make it as enjoyable and stress free for the client as possible.

From developing the colour schemes and designing bespoke storage solutions to sourcing furniture and co-ordinating suppliers and contractors, it was wonderful to see the design come together.

Thank you to the client for trusting the process and for his very complimentary review and recommendation. To hear this kind of feedback at the end of the project makes my job as an interior designer so worthwhile!

Happy Friday everyone! 😊

A few snapshots of a lovely sunny Margate last weekend. It’s a great place to relax and unwind. They have a lovely market in the old town every weekend which is worth a look – a mix of vintage clothes, artwork, homeware, vinyl and crafts. We also visited the Turner Contemporary to see Bridget Riley’s exhibition which was stunning and also saw the huge Sunley Window by David Hockney. Getting lost in the interiors labyrinth that is was a highlight. Such an eclectic range of lovely stuff! A lovely lunch had as part of their residency at The Ford Road Hotel. 😃

A little weekend lookback at quite an amazing Art Nouveau guesthouse that I had the pleasure of staying in when we visited Brussels recently called Maison Flagey in the Ixelles area near L’Avenue Louise. The house is a listed Art Nouveau house by the architect Ernest Blérot. It has been very well preserved - from it's exterior wrought ironwork railings to the stunning central staircase and Art Nouveau tiles.

It is possible to choose the room that you would like to stay in in advance and we chose the ‘Green Room’ which is at the top of house which overlooks the ponds of Ixelles. It was a lovely old fashioned room with Art Nouveau details while also seamlessly integrating some modern technology with automated lighting, concealed tv etc.

Hopefully, we will return😊
