June is one of the busiest months in the garden, but a few simple jobs can make a surprisingly big difference.

1. Tie in roses and climbers before they get carried away.

2. Freshen up your lawn edges for an instant lift.

3. W**d before they seed and save yourself a much bigger job later on.

It’s often these small maintenance jobs, done little and often, that keep a garden looking its best throughout the summer.

Stunning transformation, same footprint.

This young family’s garden needed to work much harder for them. With beautiful open green spaces nearby, a lawn wasn’t the priority. Instead, they wanted a garden that felt greener, more inviting and far more usable for everyday family life.

The result is a series of thoughtful spaces for relaxing, entertaining and spending time together, while still giving their two young children plenty of opportunities for adventure, exploration and little corners to retreat to.

A garden doesn’t have to be large to have a big impact. With the right design, even compact spaces can feel spacious, beautiful and full of possibility.

If you’ve worked with me for a while, you’ll know I’m slightly obsessed with compost…

Good quality compost is one of the best things you can add to your garden. It improves soil structure, feeds plants, helps retain moisture and supports all the life happening beneath the surface.

I’m also a big believer in working with nature and not wasting anything. Those larger twigs and woody pieces you sometimes find? Simply take them out and add them to the next compost pile so they can continue breaking down and returning goodness back into the cycle.

Healthy soil = happy plants!

Anyone else strangely excited by good compost… or is it just me?!

How to create the perfect family space.

This garden needed to be fun for adults and kids: a place for relaxing, socialising and spending time together. Creating bold diagonal lines maximises the space and creates lovely vistas throughout. The pergola features a range of play equipment such as monkey bars, gymnast rings, a hoop, a swing - perfect for the kids and their friends. The pergola has been designed to change, in time, according to the family’s needs ... maybe a luxurious and cosy swing seat... or an outdoor cinema...

The mix of angled and raised beds are awash with pretty planting and delicate multi stemmed trees and there is now room for a summerhouse, patio and raised deck featuring lovely wide steps.
