Just a girl tryna have a photoshoot with her squashes 😂➡️➡️➡️

The variety is Trombetta D’Albenga from and I’m growing them over an old metal arch. The plant has been so so prolific that the weight of the fruit has almost broken the arch!

Well, after the great slug nibble of May and June, all of my lovingly nurtured squash plants died an undignified death. Luckily, these volunteers came to the rescue providing me with a few baskets of tiny, but perfectly formed fruits. Now time to roast them all up for a delicious autumnal meal 🧡

How was your squash harvest this year?

Made a joke a few weeks ago that I’ll see you October half term and it’s coming true 😂

Dahlias still dahlia-ing, but I wore gloves in the way to school this morning so not sure how long until the frost comes! Some of you may have already had them, how are your gardens/ plots looking?

Garden Dahlias looking a bit battered after 3 weeks of September ☔️

How are yours holding up? The London microclimate means that I often have dahlias lasting until November which delays my autumn bulb planting, but it’s worth it for that last sign of summer ☀️

Anyone else got 30 + cucumbers in their kitchen?

I’ve been palming them off left right and centre, but still got them coming out of my ears. Currently, my day looks like this:
Breakfast: coffee and a cucumber
Morning snack: a cucumber
Lunch: sandwich and a cucumber
Tea: 6 cucumbers

To be honest, I usually would be pickling and processing, but this year I decided to cut back on processing so it’s cucumber all day every day until they finish up and then I’ll moan because I don’t have any 😂

Are yours still producing?

Blight has hit the outside tomatoes! It’s not a surprise given how humid it has been in London the last few weeks. No coming back from this so plants have been pulled and disposed of. How’s your gardening week been?

The garden fail Friday posts are here to remind ourselves that gardens, allotments, balconies etc are not picture perfect like Instagram would have you believe. We all have successes and we all have failures- let’s normalise the latter!

THANK GOODNESS for two brassica beds this year. Mainly because I eat so much kale that I need a good few plants. But also because the wind destroyed the netting on bed two and I lost 4 Nero kales to the caterpillars 🙆🏻‍♀️ gave them a good chop, they’ll probably come back. In the mean time, bed one keeping me full of this delicious, iron-rich food 😋

Who here grows kale?

I grow Tigerella every year, but this year I ran out of seeds. Thankfully, this bad boy sprouted up as a volunteer plant and I’m so glad I let it grow rather than pull it out!

Usually they are early croppers, but the volunteers only started once I had mulched and watered the poly tunnel, which was later than I should’ve. Every day I’m examining the fruit, urging them to ripen so I can have that stripey deliciousness for my lunch. How much longer do you think it’ll take?

Can’t stop looking at this beauty 😍🩷🧡
