Quality studio trip to Tunisia this week!

Started to with breakfast at Weatherspoons, East Croydon, to set the tone.

Things escalated upon arrival with a speedboat race around the coast, definitely not insured for Tom driving the boat, but the breeze felt as we sailed along was worth it.

Next it was a "forest" lunch (minus trees) with epic views over the coastline.

The studio secret-santa-fancy-dress-catwalk that followed was...eye opening...

The following day we popped into the medina for a mooch and a seafood lunch overlooking the bay, headed back to the castle, and initiated DFA's version of traitors around the fire. Tom's orchestration of the evening was worthy.

Time for a sleep now...

Exactly as we envisaged, this refurbishment is a harmonious blend of old with the new. It’s hard to imagine that this was once an industrial car garage hidden in St Mark’s Rise. In its place now proudly sits a quaint and sophisticated architectural marriage blending into the urban fabric of the conservation area.

The new house adjacent has recently recieved planning permission and Stage 4 is currently well underway! The scheme was led by .cortis and from DFA who carefully considered the architectural details, materials and scale in keeping with the area’s character, while offering a fresh and modern approach to the local context.

I think you’ll agree that has consciously created an interior design that encompasses this urban feel throughout with its subtle tones and textures.

Our upcoming project for a redevelopment of an underutilised existing motor garage into 12, design-led units in South London.

The architectural language of the proposed apartment building has been developed to playfully celebrate and reinforce the very best qualities of the suburban context within which the site is located.

Features include pitched top floors and a stepping horizontal banding with eaves lines that acknowledge and address the sloping nature of the site and inset windows with deep reveals and surrounds.

Tile facades will wrap the proposal with a stepping footprint to respond to different edge conditions and vertical changes in materials to break down the massing relative to the opposite terrace runs.

With a non-negotiable commitment to sustainable projects, the proposal will incorporate green roofs maximising water attenuation, water butts for rainwater harvesting, solar panels to promote renewable energy, and improved landscaping to enhance biodiversity.

Triple-glazed windows will also improve thermal and acoustic performance and will optimise insulation and airtightness.

We look forward to sharing further updates on this project!

Planning approval at Portal Way for 260 kitchens with a ground floor of permeable public realm and cafe space.

Lovely article from the ... a few of the comments within the write-up:

"unanimously approved by the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation"

"a ‘world first’ building representing a ‘completely new typology’"

"Councillors on the committee, from the three boroughs the OPDC falls within, described the overall vision and 'innovative' internal design of the scheme as ‘excellent’. One councillor admitted he had been convinced by its ‘out-of-the-box thinking’ over the course of the meeting. Another councillor added: ‘This could possibly be an award-winning building’."

"Councillors agreed the principal of development had been ‘robustly addressed’"

A great week for planning approvals, another one gets the green light! Elm Grove Farm, a barn to home conversion in Hertfordshire. Working alongside ACRE, the scheme will transform four agricultural barns in rural Barnet into a detached, four-bedroom family home.

A big thanks to our team

Where sites aren’t places we visit, they’re places we work – and have worked for years – building up the kind of nuts-and-bolts know-how that makes a material difference. To our designs. To our productivity. To our clients.

Making life simpler, not harder. Causing fewer headaches. Hitting more nails on the head.
