Today and every day I feel privileged. Privileged to be living and working in an environment and around people facilitating me to do so safely and in relative peace. I feel privileged to be asserting the design vision of our clients throughout the design to practical completion stages. Privileged to annoy (haha) my fellow design, engineering and construction colleagues while doing so.
Tremendously privileged to be designing and reviewing the construction, as an architect, of schools designed for children to be nurtured, inspired and educated in a loving and safe environment, surrounded by teachers and adults looking out for their welfare and development.
There are many children who are not so privileged. There are adults and young people not so privileged. There are qualified and future architects not so privileged. For them, every day is a fight, a challenge, a race against time for survival. For them, forget dreams, aspirations and basic human rights, survival is their main goal. Just being alive is a privilege, or not.
Imagine.
Take a moment to count our blessings. There are people, right now as I type this message, who are being removed from this world, from existence. Small children to young adults being left homeless, family-less. For reasons beyond comprehension.
Believe we are all privileged, if we are able to live, work and, just be, without the constant fear of one's existence.
Imagine.
