Thought piece I wrote over a year ago, yet feels just as apt now, if not more so than ever. Reach out to people. Make sure they're ok. You never know who's day you may just save or brighten up.

Language matters. Integrity matters.

"As designers, it's our responsibility to advocate for inclusivity—it's not an optional add-on. Designing for neurodiversity responds to the reality that individuals are wired differently. Everyone represents diversity in thought, experience, and cognition. Empowering a variety of people and perspectives results in rich interactions and a thriving culture, contributing to the development of human-centered environments."

Design for neurodiversity: create inclusive spaces that empower individuals with unique sensory needs in airports, schools, and workplaces.

May Allah accept the fasts, prayers, and worship from this Ramadan. May Allah forgive our deeds, have mercy on our souls, and grant a place in Jannat-ul-Firdous. May we all live to see another Ramadan to benefit from all the barakah. May all those facing challenges of this world be granted ease. Ameen.

Hope you all have a blessed few days with your loved ones, Eid Mubarak one and all. 🌷

Today and every day I feel privileged. Privileged to be living and working in an environment and around people facilitating me to do so safely and in relative peace. I feel privileged to be asserting the design vision of our clients throughout the design to practical completion stages. Privileged to annoy (haha) my fellow design, engineering and construction colleagues while doing so.

Tremendously privileged to be designing and reviewing the construction, as an architect, of schools designed for children to be nurtured, inspired and educated in a loving and safe environment, surrounded by teachers and adults looking out for their welfare and development.

There are many children who are not so privileged. There are adults and young people not so privileged. There are qualified and future architects not so privileged. For them, every day is a fight, a challenge, a race against time for survival. For them, forget dreams, aspirations and basic human rights, survival is their main goal. Just being alive is a privilege, or not.

Imagine.

Take a moment to count our blessings. There are people, right now as I type this message, who are being removed from this world, from existence. Small children to young adults being left homeless, family-less. For reasons beyond comprehension.

Believe we are all privileged, if we are able to live, work and, just be, without the constant fear of one's existence.

Imagine.

Thought of the day:

"If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor. If an elephant has its foot on the tail of a mouse and you say that you are neutral, the mouse will not appreciate your neutrality. We may be surprised at the people we find in heaven."
Desmond Tutu.

Be on the right side of history and humanity people. Your conscience is your own.

Not at all biased 😉 am I. The PG Architecture Apprenticeship programme at Oxford Brookes University is brilliant would recommend it to any potential aspiring architect looking to further their architectural career.

Have been saying this to many people I meet, it would have benefitted me back in the day if available being the passive and easily intimidated young person without connections that I was.

The confidence and exposure these semi-professionals have of both academia and practice is fantastic. Can see the growth in confidence and learning in the young professionals that I've had the pleasure of tutoring MPL since joining the team during the 2020/21 academic year.
