House of the Elements is a radical remodelling of a Victorian terraced home in London, creating a beautiful spa-like retreat in another otherwise ordinary urban setting. Bold spatial gestures, a focus on connections to nature, and also a sense of fun make this an exciting and highly unusual home. House of the Elements explores the concept of space as a living entity, where time is measured not only by human presence and daily rituals but also by the growth and nurturing of plants, and the passage of light throughout the day.

Recent work in Highgate opposite the ponds…

As a studio, we are very concerned about atmosphere. The effects of how natural light moves during the day, the way it touches materials, bringing the inherent beauty of natural materials alive.

The effects of artificial light, how it can bring warmth and focus to our daily activities.

Light, space and materials are what we work with, and how they interact with the fourth dimension of time.

These studies explore the quiet generosity of space rather than spectacle. Soft, filtered daylight moves through double-height volumes and roof openings, animating timber, stone and lime-washed surfaces. Structure is deliberately legible, columns, thresholds and changes in level doing the work.

The intention is calm, durable architecture that feels inhabited and settled, shaped as much by light and time as by form.

House of Elements began with a simple question: how can a home feel grounded and light at the same time?

We worked with elemental materials — timber, stone, and filtered light — to create spaces that feel calm, tactile, and enduring.

We are excited to share a first look at the interior world of Lindley House – where the architecture’s planted atrium, curved geometries, and soft natural materials come together to form a calm, light-filled sanctuary in the heart of De Beauvoir.

The interiors expand on the project’s core ideas of warmth, craft, and connection to nature. Stone floors, timber linings, and generous glazing frame views into the three-storey garden court, while each room is shaped by shifting dappled light throughout the day. These spaces are designed as places to pause, breathe, and feel grounded.

It is a joy continuing the journey with our clients as the house evolves from concept into a fully resolved home – every detail considered, every space rooted in atmosphere and care.

Yesterday our studio took a trip to West Hoathly to visit Clay Rise – a remarkable house designed and built by our very own Andre Ford for his parents.

It’s honestly one of the most beautiful and inspiring homes we’ve ever seen – full of warmth, craft, and soul. Every curve and material feels so thoughtful, so personal. You can really sense the love that went into it.

After exploring the house (and taking a lot of photos), we finished the day with a long lunch at the local pub – plenty of laughs, stories, and countryside views.

We’re so proud of Andre and everything he’s achieved with this project – shortlisted for the British Homes Awards and the Manser Medal. Holding thumbs for him – we hope he takes home a trophy or two!

Recent work in Hampstead

Rolling Hills — Millfield Lane

An extension to a Victorian terrace near the Hampstead Ponds, this project explores how a contemporary addition can feel rooted in its setting rather than imposed upon it.

Tucked into the slope at the rear of the house, the new volume folds into the garden beneath a planted roof that continues the rhythm of the landscape beyond. With few opportunities for windows on the boundary, we carved a series of skylights to draw light deep into the plan — soft, shifting daylight that animates the space through the day.

Brick, oak and stone bring warmth and texture. It is a calm, grounded interior — shaped by light, material, and the gentle contours of its site.

Dusheiko House, North London — My Family Home

Designing for others always involves empathy, but reimagining my own family’s home required something more: curiosity, experimentation, and no small amount of courage. This project became a living lab for ideas about light, space, and the way materials feel under our hands each day.

Once a dark Victorian terrace split into cramped spaces, I opened it up with new timber-lined stairs, skylights, and a diagonal view stretching toward the garden. Every step — from moving the staircase to layering in different woods and stone — was an attempt to make daily rituals more joyful. We kept the palette robust and honest: exposed Douglas Fir in the bedroom, oak running seamlessly inside to out, warm brass, cool stone underfoot, and sunlight finding its way around every corner.

Designing for my family meant focusing on how we actually live. Small details matter: the way morning light hits a wall, or the natural warmth of wood beneath bare feet. Robust, tactile materials — chosen for longevity and comfort — offer both calm and energy, echoing moments shared with loved ones.

This house embodies my belief that architecture should support living well: quietly, beautifully, together.
