Planning success!!!
Furzebrook is an extension to a countryside home in the beautiful surrounds of Purbeck, a few miles from the Jurassic Coast in Dorset.
Sitting in an Area of Outstanding Beauty the mid Victorian semi detached home is, uncharacteristically for the area, of brick construction; the clay bricks quarried directly from the land to the rear of the house.

The proposal is to enlarge the house for the clients and their growing family and connect to the surroundings. The new extensions to the side and rear have glazing facing out to the views of the landscape, opening up the house to light and sunshine. 🌞

Delighted to announce that we have received planning permission for a brick and zinc clad rear extension and garden room in Islington. These will mimic each other in material and form as seen in the drawings.

Planning Success!
We recently received planning permission for the upgrading and refurbishment of an existing garage and extension in a conservation area in South London.

The proposal looks to increase the communal space on the ground floor of the Victorian property, integrating the refurbished garage into the main house to create a well-lit, flexible home-office and guest bedroom. The refurbishment includes the cladding of the existing outbuilding in external wall insulation and profiled aluminium, upgrading the building so that it is more efficient and comfortable. Replacing a dilapidated lean-to, a glazed extension stretches across the rear of the house to offer an internal, single -level connection between the main hallway and the study, also providing an accessible ground floor bathroom for guests.

Paintings and pictures often adorn the walls of our homes, but aren’t usually seen in the garden. As part of the refurbishment of Hawksley Road, we collaborated with artist Susan Allix to create an external painting which would be sited on an outside wall, like any other room within the house, connecting the internal and external spaces.

Keen to open the rear of the house up to the garden and increase the floor space of the kitchen/diner, the design included extensions to both the side and rear of a Victorian-semi in a south London conservation area.
The new layout focused around a central openable courtyard, bringing natural light and soft planting into the heart of the home. The combination of natural timbers, exposed contemporary brickwork, bare zinc and pockets of glazing creating a calming environment, blurring the internal and external spaces.

Ewhurst Road is up on the website now!
Modest in size and budget, the extension features exposed steels, avoiding the unnecessary expense of concealed cranked beams. Externally red cedar was selected to clad the facade. Beautifully greying with age, the timber requires very little maintenance and softens the additional mass in the garden. One large opening is split into bifold doors and a fixed window to add interest to the elevation while still opening up the kitchen to the garden.

Photos have just come in of our recently completed project in East London which includes a new home office in the converted loft.

Built-in plywood joinery, a small WC and natural materials make the top of the house a calm, multi-functional space - ready for a business call or a yoga session! More photos to follow soon...
