Having spent a lot of money on getting our new garden designed and hard landscaped, it is pretty much settling in for winter although the wild flower areas are still flowering in places, and of course, a few bulbs are starting to sprout … and yes, lots of weeds!

The garden is still a planting work in progress and we’ve still got to turf the centre and around the silver birches and bird table with wildflower turf (early October) and put in our water feature in the middle of the wildflower turf BUT we are getting there! Oh and put up a pergola (oak stuck on a ship from France apparently!) and fill the planters and …

Almost there - the structure is on place and main shrubs and trees. More planting to be done in autumn including taking up some of the turf and turning into a wildflower miniature meadow!

So 5 months in our new home but nothing yet done to the garden. But we have ambitious plans. We want to create a wildlife friendly garden with wild flowers as well as a patio area for having lunch outside and entertaining (after lockdown 🙄) We have challenges not least that the back garden is very uneven, faces East and is heavy clay. In addition we don’t think there’s much topsoil (it’s a new house) and strange circular patches are dying off on our lawn ... this is what it looks like today. Plans already underway ... including a porcelain patio

10 years have passed since we started our garden in Beckenham and on Thursday we move to a new house where I will have another garden to nurture. It is a totally blank canvas and so I’m looking forward to starting my next secret garden (again you can’t see in it without an invite!)
So here are a few final pics. Yes, the garden is looking a bit tatty now and yes, I haven’t nurtured it in the last couple of weeks like I usually do but it’s still a lovely place to sit and drink coffee.
