Today there was a wonderful man in my kitchen painting the walls so I took myself out for lunch, and ended up at the glorious …and I just HAD to have this lavender cat…look- it even has pink paws on the bottom! … and I lingered for far longer than I should have, chatting with Angel about lots of things, including our mutual love of stitching. She told me that at age forty she just decided that she was going to do one stitch and one stitch ONLY and perfect that stitch and use it for everything, and she chose running stitch. She makes EVERYTHING using this one stitch. The seams of this little cat are sewn with it; the stitches are minuscule- tailor of Gloucester - type-stuff… no more TWIST!!! Angel gave me a cat to make up if I promised to come back with the results…watch this space!😬 🤭

Rich pickings as I removed brown bits from the pelargoniums today. I will bring the plants inside soon. I don’t chop them to overwinter…I like the scented leaves too much! 💚💚💚💚

I like the way children hum to themselves when they are absorbed in something. This morning my son told me that of ALL the bad things you could do in class, HUMMING was the WORST CRIME. It is banned in class. If I were teaching a class of thirty I’d probably ban humming too- unless they all hummed in harmony. My children all hum a lot. I have a friend whose little boy is non-verbal and has a constant hum going on. I asked her about this and she said the vibrations produced when we hum are in some way grounding. Her little boy is humming to self-soothe. When I was at school about three hundred years ago we were given the option of doing Buddhist meditation as an activity. The monk (who I’ll never forget because he had a deep depression in the back of his shaved scull…a bullet? a hammer?) taught us to chant and the chant basically morphed into this huge nasal hum in the room. We were teenagers and so there was also a lot of snorting and giggling, but that hum drowned it all out and I remember feeling sort of high.

Muehlenbeckia in a pot. Beautiful and bullet proof. This one has almost died several times from neglect; I am a terribly bad mother. If I had to choose three of my favourite plants for a large pot this would be up there, along with Ivy and fern.

I finally got Rotter to put it on the table and I adore the feeling of walking beneath it. Surrounded by pelargonium cutting that I STILL haven’t potted up HEY HO! When everything is so dry it’s fun to pull some pots together and create a corner of lushness. Do show me yours if you feel like it?
