We were proud to attend the Unlock Net Zero Awards and celebrate alongside so many organisations and individuals making a real difference across the sustainability and retrofit sectors.

Although we didn’t take home the award this year, being named a finalist was an achievement in itself and a testament to the hard work, dedication, and passion of our entire team.

A special thank you to Cath Geoghegan for her support, encouragement, and leadership, which continues to inspire us every day.

Congratulations to all the winners and fellow finalists.

We’re proud to be part of an industry that’s driving meaningful change, and we’re excited to continue helping households live in healthier, warmer, and more energy-efficient homes.

Here’s to building on this achievement and continuing to make a positive impact. 🌍🏡

UK heatwave, red extreme heat warning in place.
38°C forecast this week. High humidity making it feel worse than 2022. Here’s what actually helps 👇
Stay safe:

🫗 Drink water before you feel thirsty

🕐 Stay out of the sun 11am–3pm

👕 Light, loose clothes only

🧓 Check on elderly neighbours — they’re most at risk

🚗 Never leave kids or pets in a parked car
Keep your home cool:

🪟 Close south-facing blinds during the day

🌬️ Open windows at night to let cool air in

🧊 Put a bowl of ice in front of a fan

🍳 Skip the oven — cold meals or BBQ only

🚪 Close internal doors to keep one room cool

🛏️ Sleep downstairs if you can — heat rises
Feeling unwell from the heat? Call NHS 111.
Stay safe out there 🧡

Most retrofit isn't bad. But the gap between "okay" and "great" can mean a colder home, condensation, or wasted spend.

So what does good retrofit actually look like? Here are the five things you should expect from anyone working on your home, whether you're a homeowner, a council procuring at scale, or a community group planning a programme.

1. A whole-home assessment before anyone quotes
2. Whole-house thinking, not a single measure
3. A named Retrofit Coordinator overseeing the work
4. Certified, vetted, accountable professionals (MCS, TrustMark)
5. A ventilation strategy designed in, not bolted on

RetrofitWorks is a co-operative of certified retrofit professionals delivering schemes across the UK. We exist because retrofit at scale only works if quality scales with it.

Save this for your next retrofit conversation.

The average UK energy bill hit £1,849 this year. Up 6% in a single quarter.

Waiting for Ofgem to fix it isn't a strategy. Upgrading your home is.

Nearly half of English homes still fall below EPC band C — meaning millions of households are paying more than they need to every single month, simply because their homes are losing energy that's already been paid for.

The good news? Upgrading your home has real, measurable impact: → Solar panels can cut electricity bills by £300–£900 a year → A heat pump saves an average of £219/yr vs a gas boiler (real 2025 data) → Moving from EPC D to C can add up to 3% to your property value → Heat pumps produce 70% fewer carbon emissions than gas boilers

This is what RetrofitWorks has been doing since 2013 , properly coordinated, PAS 2035-compliant home energy upgrades across the UK. Not-for-profit. No shortcuts.

The UK's next big employment boom isn't in tech or finance. It's in your walls, roof, and heating system.
PwC's Green Jobs Barometer estimates that up to 500,000 jobs could be supported annually if the UK fully retrofits its existing housing stock,

from heating engineers and insulation specialists to retrofit coordinators and supply chain roles.
Between 10,000 and 66,000 new tradespeople will be needed each year as retrofit accelerates, with heating engineers, glazers and insulation specialists among the most in demand.

And the sector is already moving. Retrofit is at the heart of that growth.

But the skills shortage risks becoming a serious bottleneck. Training, accreditation, and a trusted supply chain need to scale fast. Organisations like RetrofitWorks are helping build exactly that a quality-assured supply chain that ensures retrofit is done right, not just done fast.

The opportunity is enormous. The question is whether the industry builds the workforce in time.
💬 Are you working in or moving into the retrofit sector? We'd love to connect.

As we’ve seen in the Warm Homes Plan, the government is now explicitly focused on how retrofit is delivered, prioritising real outcomes like warmer homes, lower bills, better health, and lived experience over simple installation numbers.

This is exactly what RetrofitWorks is already delivering through the Warm Home Local Grant in Sussex.

The reviews we’re receiving are a testament to a systematic, whole-house approach that puts households first combining quality delivery, clear communication and upgrades that genuinely improve comfort and wellbeing.
