We’re delighted to share that Chalk River House has been shortlisted for the RIBA Awards South 2026.

Set on the banks of the River Test in Hampshire, the house is arranged around two courtyard gardens that bring light deep into the plan. Designed as a long-term family home, it combines natural materials, careful craftsmanship and strong environmental performance — including a river-source heat pump and highly insulated timber frame construction.

We’re incredibly proud of the whole team involved and grateful to our clients for their trust and collaboration throughout.

Signing off for the Christmas holidays.
It’s our 10th year and has been a particularly busy year - highlights include:
- Highly commended BD House Architect of the Year
- Winner British Home House of the Year
- (another award we are not allowed to talk about)🤞🏼🤌🏻🤫
- seeing three exciting projects start on site in London
- watching from afar as our house in Zambia gets built
- new projects on the drawing board in New York, Devon, Wiltshire
- moved to a new office in Wandsworth

Hard to believe it’s all been packed into 1 year - and there’s only 2 of us (and we both moved house 😂)

Time to down tools and put our feet up for a couple of weeks before we start again in Jan… Excited to start a couple of new commissions in the new year.

Courtyard @ Chalk River House

We introduced two courtyards spaces into to the design of this house for light, views and ventilation. The main spaces revolve around the courtyards offering a variety of views as one circulates through the house. This is an ornamental garden with a vast vertical sliding sash window to light air flow naturally through the house.

It’s a panellised timber frame system so it’s assembled as a kit of parts. Each floor only takes 1-2 days and whole house will be up by end of next week (if all goes well). Fabricated and built by .
