Clientβ€˜s love - always thrilled to hear words like that! And yet what is the story behind?

Andrea heard my name from 3 different source: two of the builders companies I work with, and recommendation from a friend of a friend of a friend. So she called me. I liked her instantly and I liked the project.
I love working with oversea clients and I love working with lawyers - both groups of people are clear and straightforward in their communication which makes life-on-site more enjoyable and easy.
The challenge here was that she wasn’t in London, the timeline was tight and yet she wanted to see all finishes and fittings IRL to confirm. I worked around her schedule.
Just before we started on site the main guy of the builders company left the country for good. That required me to be on site sometimes daily and cover the management tasks of a foreman.

My client came back a day after completion and there was still plenty of snagging to do.
Some of the paint work wasn’t up to a standard. A couple of light fitting didn’t work properly.
Clear instructions and a bit of persuasion of the builders, and the work was done as it was supposed to be.

Along the way mistakes happened - misled my images online I ordered a bathroom light with a size of a stadium projector. We couldn’t get it back - Chinese online company don’t seem to be very customer friendly…

The most important thing was to be in contact with my client despite challenges and mess ups.
Communication is a key in those cases and if you’re upfront and honest it always works out!

How to start planning the right way? Which also would lead to success btw.

Very often I see homeowners trying to safe time or money or both, and skip essential steps in the preparation for the planning process.
The issue then becomes that the planing submission is not comprehensive for the local authority to make a decision. Or even worst it submitted proposal doesn’t take into account local policies and regulations. Those can be very different between councils but also within the same borough: Conservation area policies, Article 4 restrictions or areas of natural beauty to name a few.

The best way to approach planning is to spend enough time with the brief development and the design development of your project.
How exactly to do that, I’ll share in the upcoming free webinar - Winning the planning game - on the 23rd of July, 1pm.

Getting planning approval for property development projects can be tricky and homeowners are often concern about that phase. The trouble is not the planning process but the approach a lot of people are taking on - thinking of getting planning without clarifying what they want to achieve and how this is going to look like.
There are better ways of approaching planing and they are pretty much always very successful.
This is going to be the topic of my next webinar - Winning the planning game - happening next Tuesday, the 23rd of July at lunch time.

Working with overseas clients is something I really enjoy! The different cultures, different approach to getting things done but surprisingly often we seem to share similar design aesthetics.
The Holborn project we finished recently for our US based client is a good example of that: NYC meets London and the flat in Holborn became a cosy pied-Γ -terre for family and friends πŸ’«
