Emily Hillier Garden Designer Hello, I'm a fully qualified Garden Designer trained at The English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Garden. The top school for design and planting.

I think this may be the first time I’ve shared the before for this garden. It takes forever to find the first photos and videos 😅

This sloped garden wasn’t being used and is now a lovely sanctuary with plenty of space for lounging and dining, hidden trampoline and shed. It only took two steps to level out these slopes! Building up is always my preferred option rather than taking away good soil and creating unnecessary waste.

Successful gardens always have good proportions. Most of the time it’s the planting beds that get left out in smaller gardens but by bringing the planting into the garden, playing about with planting levels, your garden will be so much more interesting, lovely to be in as well as a nicer view from the house.

What a beautiful little corner of this country garden. Spring was so hot that all the bulbs came and went in the blink of an eye.

I hope to have time to share some new gardens with you soon. I have so many gardens to visit as soon as I have some time.

Enjoy your weekend! I definitely need to get some rest but so much to do in my own garden and allotment! 😅🌿Although the rain may mean I’m clearing out some cupboard at home.

Anyone gardening this weekend?

Too many bulbs? The truth is that the bulbs are really taking over this area and I will need to dig some out but the lovely thing is that I can give them away to friends or do a bit of guerrilla gardening perhaps!! 😅

These combinations are so easy to add to your borders in autumn if they’re looking a little bare now. You will never regret planting bulbs and if money is tight look to plant bulbs which can naturalise.

Hi to any new followers!!! I’m here to inspire people to make the most of their gardens!!! All seasons 🌿💚🌿

If anyone has any questions or needs advice I will always try to help where possible.

A nice picture captured at the end of a long day planting. Thanks to the planting team who worked tirelessly in the heat. .garden.maintenance All the different vibrant shades of green are so important for the spring garden. They work with any colour scheme and provide the perfect backdrop for alliums and tulips. These dark tulips and purple alliums are really stunning in this garden! They also make a striking contrast with the light paving.

The plants come and go and the planting changes constantly. The garden is filled with buds ready to burst. Some big, tall alliums which the bees love. The garden has changed so much in the last week! Today there are Iris everywhere and they are doing really well on the hot steep slopes.

The new sections of this country garden are starting to fill out and we’ve been adding some extra fillers plants over the last week in the hottest weather. 😅

A big thank you to everyone who has worked on this garden. Too many to name everyone. But it’s been an absolute joy to be back here adding some more plants. Checking all the existing plants and loving all the tulips and alliums!! We all feel like we’re on holiday when we work here!

Planting a large garden is exhausting. There is a lot of walking. At the end of the day your feet ache like doing Chelsea! 😂And this garden is extremely steep!!! Special thanks to and .garden.maintenance for working their socks off on really steep banks all day!! 🙏💚🌿💚🌿💚🌿💚

The view out is so important. Why look out onto a boring lawn when you can have an outlook like this!! It’s why I absolutely love working from home. Sometimes it’s hard to be inside when all I want to do is go out and sit in the garden. Please ignore all the small pots! I know I’m not allowed them 😂 but I really love changing them all the time! I don’t know why I love pots so much. I grow everything in them. Bulbs, perennials, trees, evergreens, roses, vegetables, annuals. Right now, I’m excited about a peach sweetpea and Californian poppy combo! I’ll be adding some bronze Nicotiana once it’s a good size!! 🤩Over winter I had gorgeous purple Kale and cabbages in pots. It was such a fantastic combination and now the Kale is flowering it’s totally stunning and the bees love them!!!

A great view out onto this beautiful garden recently finished in the heart of Chiswick which is quite frankly one the most perfect places to live in London. They even have a flower market every month! 🌿🤍🌿

I look forward to seeing the Hydrangeas bloom next year. We have added lots of nice evergreens, grasses and white Anemones will look stunning against the soft warm walls.

More to come….. 💚🌿🤍🌿💚

I’m really trying to make my planting schemes more exciting with lots of layers and trying out different planting combinations, colours and textures.

There are rules when designing the planting but I think lots of designers are moving away from simple schemes and using their knowledge and skills to create special and unique and complex gardens.

Maybe this one is a bit much for you but to me I live the energy and the excitement of these bright and contrasting colours! Would love to know what you think about using colour in gardens or whether we should really reign things in and be more constrained.

I’m a big fan of pathways. Without a pathway your lawn will become a full stop for at least 6 months of the year and you won’t want to explore further into the garden without suitable footwear.

The garden is hugely enhanced by the beautiful architecture

Enjoy your weekend! Maybe you’ll go and create that pathway?
