Designing and making together is not only something we enjoy, we truly believe that this process can make something powerful: human connections, stories and memories. We love seeing how younger members of the family adapt and inhabit the new spaces we create. How they can see things with fresh eyes where everything is possible. Here’s a few of our faves.

Read this and thought about our work.

‘I don’t like homes designed by somebody else. Because, how do they know who you are? It’s sterile! If something talks to you it doesn’t matter if people say, ‘ugh, those chairs, they don’t go with the rug’. Who cares what anyone else thinks about your house. As long as you like it.’ Nicole Farhi

Come and explore our Burgundy Lanes project. This project transforms a mid-century house in Hackney into a family home that is simple and restrained from the outside but sophisticated and materially rich inside.

We love collaborating and this project was a team effort:

Texture texture texture!

In this beautiful Spring sunshine these materials really do sing. Through careful choice of materials you can create depth, shadows and interest in a flat elevation. Texture can also make an interesting backdrop for plants, window openings and lighting. In today’s climate emergency we have a responsibility to start specifying sustainable materials that offer additional solutions for domestic clients.

A couple of proposals for a shady garden in South London with big level changes and our site analysis. The front garden slopes down while the rear garden slopes up. Both our designs propose playing with these levels to create interest and structure as well as framing lush green views from the house.

Our housing stock may be similar but we all live very differently within them.

The brief for this Oxfordshire family was to extend and reconfigure a Victorian terrace house to create a more social kitchen living dining space for multiple activities to happen at once. They wanted the ground floor to connect through to their lovely long garden - bringing nature into the internal spaces. In the garden they wanted space for food growing/play/dinning and for it to feel quite wild with a garden studio at the rear.

Space for books needed to be incorporated into ALL rooms. Our favourite bit was incorporating a small stage into the living room / kitchen with a back drop curtain - their son likes dancing!

💥 easi-house is today’s Sunday Times 💥

Architects don’t often talk about the cost challenges that underpin projects.
In the course of our Easi-House project, democratic, economic and world events led to construction costs virtually doubling. This story is about the creativity and resourcefulness of our team, our clients and the contractor to still deliver a transformative and unique project that has created a joyful home for their family.

Loving the warm hues of this living space especially on these grey rainy February days. The bright sitting space faces onto the garden and the window frames an existing apple tree beyond. A bookcase wall hides a pocket door which leads onto a more cosy snug at the front of the house.

Door of dreams 💛

At Pinny’s Paradise we added a lightweight side extension to a Victorian property in Hackney. Our clients loved their existing rear bays and we wanted our addition to be feel like a strip full of natural light which gives better access to the patio and connection to the garden studio beyond.
