This fantastic new build house replaces a rundown two storey 1930’s house. Each of the adjacent houses, which were once similar, have each received an ‘Arts and Crafts’ makeover but our enlightened clients wished to design and build their dream home unlike any other in the Conservation Area. We took on this challenge with great enthusiasm and delight. Clients and projects like these don’t come along very often. In our plans you will see living accommodation on the ground floor, 4 en-suite bedrooms on the first floor and a main bedroom suite on the top floor. The rooms are arranged around a central double height gallery, a ‘hall house’. Living spaces to the rear of the house are interconnected by sliding doors, inspired by the planning of houses by M.H. Ballie Scott, and open out onto a generous rear garden. Our clients are avid readers and wished to have a series of spaces and places around the house where they could pause and relax whilst they read. The central hall is flanked by two courtyards, one covered, which filter light into the central hall. Glazed openings in the courtyards allow visual connections into and through each of the living spaces and up to the bedroom floor above. Visual concrete walls flank the central hall and reach out into the rear garden. More to follow later on this project which is due to complete in July 2024. Plans for this house were a special request of

Tudor details added back and replicated on the roof dormers at our Arthur Rd roof refurbishment project.

Final inspection today before scaffold is dropped by a further level to allow the remaining rainwater fixtures to be installed and the decorator to complete the external walls.

We are so pleased with the progress externally, especially considering the recent wet weather ☔️

Our clients have started to move some of their belongings into the finished space but still some final touches to be done by the decorators before hand over. Very happy with the result so far.

Great article about the insights into the most common concerns clients raise about architects; often they are predictable, avoidable, and the result of a simple misunderstanding.

The key is effective communication. The better informed your clients are, and the clearer the scope, the less risk there is of issues arising in the later stages of the project.

Here at Malone Architecture we pride ourselves on creating bespoke environments designed to the individual needs and requirements of each of our clients. We always include our clients in the design process: listening to what they want and helping them develop a brief for their home. Every home we have designed has been bespoke, because every client, site and project is different.

Common misunderstandings between clients and architects ARB Insight, June 2023 by Sara McAllister, Investigations Officer At ARB we investigate hundreds of complaints about architects – some serious, some less so. These complaints give us a unique insight into the concerns clients raise about arch...

The finishing touches at our West Wimbledon conservation area project now the roof extension is complete.

This resin bound gravel driveway is currently being laid. It's a sustainable, free draining surface which naturally reduces rainwater run-off into the sewer system by allowing stormwater to filter through into the ground.

Steelwork installation under way at this single storey rear extension in the Dunmore Road Conservation Area. Two new 'picture frame' structures are being put in to support and stabilise the existing first floor brickwork, creating an open-plan kitchen-living room space at ground floor level.

For safety reasons, the demolition work is being done in stages as the steelwork is installed.
