This fantastic new build house replaces a rundown two storey 1930’s house. Each of the adjacent houses, which were once similar, have each received an ‘Arts and Crafts’ makeover but our enlightened clients wished to design and build their dream home unlike any other in the Conservation Area. We took on this challenge with great enthusiasm and delight. Clients and projects like these don’t come along very often. In our plans you will see living accommodation on the ground floor, 4 en-suite bedrooms on the first floor and a main bedroom suite on the top floor. The rooms are arranged around a central double height gallery, a ‘hall house’. Living spaces to the rear of the house are interconnected by sliding doors, inspired by the planning of houses by M.H. Ballie Scott, and open out onto a generous rear garden. Our clients are avid readers and wished to have a series of spaces and places around the house where they could pause and relax whilst they read. The central hall is flanked by two courtyards, one covered, which filter light into the central hall. Glazed openings in the courtyards allow visual connections into and through each of the living spaces and up to the bedroom floor above. Visual concrete walls flank the central hall and reach out into the rear garden. More to follow later on this project which is due to complete in July 2024.
