50 Stratton Street. A comprehensive refurbishment and extension to an existing office building in the heart of Mayfair originally constructed in 2002. New terraced upper floors will use a hybrid CLT & steel structure to reduce embodied carbon and create outdoor space with a sky lobby and terrace enhancing wellbeing and green space. Re-modelled facades at ground floor will reactivate the existing ground floor commercial units and new public art, part of the planning requirements from Westminster City Council, by Hugo Dalton will be integrated into the architecture enhancing the street.
Building on S+Ts past collaborations with Hugo Dalton and experience in blending public art with architecture, proposals for a new carved artwork cornice that wraps the three street facing elevations of the building have been created by Dalton.
The public art on the existing building is by Norman Akroyd and show delicate etchings depicting the British coastline and countryside. With the blessing of Akroyd, these etchings will be carefully relocated to King Soloman Academy to ensure his work continues to benefit the people of the borough of Westminster and brings friezes from a noted British artist into the daily lives of young people.
