“I don’t think I appreciated the way good architecture can actually transform the way you feel and live” says Elizabeth Rose, a former professional dancer and teacher, as she gives a tour of her innovative stilt house.

Sitting on a natural floodplain on the banks of the Thames, a picturesque stretch of the river used extensively as a public amenity, the timber clad house has been designed to withstand the predicted increased flood risk for the next 100 years.

The house, which appears to hover above the ground, features flexible open plan interiors configured around a curated collection of Danish mid-century modern furniture, lighting and art.

A new contemporary West Wing, and alterations to a listed house, which dates back to the 15th Century.
It is the former home of J. M. Barrie, who lived in the house for 15 years.
