The building designed by Zaha Hadid has become one of the symbols of the Pearl River Delta
Zaha Hadid designed the two main buildings of the Opera to resemble two huge pebbles, with a sinuous shape as if smoothed by the waters of the Pearl River. Faithful to this idea, the Opera House blends perfectly with the surrounding environment, allowing visitors to walk around its two edifices: a theater capable of accommodating up to 1,800 spectators, and a second multifunctional structure capable of holding over 400 people.
Inside, the structure is characterized by large overhangs and continuous changes in height achieved through balconies and cantilevered stairs that lead visitors along an architectural promenade. On the outside, instead, the two “pebbles” are both covered with granite and emerge from a common foundation made of concrete, glass surfaces, turf and reflecting pools of water.

BIG has unveiled the vision for EVE Music Hall as construction nears completion in eastern Croatia 🎷🎼

Presented during an event on site featuring a special performance by pianist Peter Bence, the 10,000-m² project will center on a live music venue, but also feature congress facilities, exhibition spaces, a café, and rooftop for events. Set among the agricultural landscapes of Slavonia, the building is composed of two distinct halls connected by a shared public foyer. Clad in slabs of local limestone, the facade drapes toward the ground like theatrical curtains, framing entrances and revealing glimpses of the activity within, while suspended timber beams and mirrored surfaces shape the atmosphere of the interior.

Glass Pavilion combines contemporary construction with architectural references drawn from Thai religious buildings. Natural light enters through glazed façades and skylights, creating an interior atmosphere that changes throughout the day and across different weather conditions.

The project features Low-E glazing, steel surfaces, teak wood finishes, operable glass walls, and a surrounding water feature that contributes to passive cooling and natural ventilation.

🔬 AstraZeneca Discovery Centre — architecture designed for innovation and collaboration ✨

Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the *AstraZeneca Discovery Centre* (DISC) stands at the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus in the United Kingdom as the company’s global hub for scientific research and discovery.

Rather than organizing research into isolated departments, the building was conceived as a highly connected environment where scientists, researchers, and innovation teams can interact, exchange ideas, and collaborate more effectively. Transparency becomes both a physical and conceptual design principle throughout the project.

The architecture promotes visual connectivity through open laboratories, shared workspaces, collaborative zones, and interconnected circulation routes. By reducing barriers between disciplines, the building encourages spontaneous encounters and knowledge sharing—an increasingly important factor in contemporary research environments.

Its carefully articulated façade balances openness with performance, bringing abundant natural light into the interior while supporting the technical requirements of advanced laboratory spaces. The result is a workplace that feels more like a collaborative campus than a conventional research facility.

The project reflects a broader shift in workplace and laboratory design, where architecture is no longer simply a container for research but an active participant in the innovation process itself.

A building designed not only to house discovery—but to help create it.
