A sunny visit to Third House which is on the home straight to becoming a simply stunning upgrade
in a beautiful countryside location. Set within a conservation area, it already had good architectural
heritage, having been architect designed in the 60’s. Our proposed, small but proportional
extension (just popping up behind the chimney) allowed the internal configuration to work so much
better. The fabric upgrade formed the second part of our design concepts, with the third element
being the new home studio setting within the original walled garden where the swimming pool once
occupied.

A re-visit to Ludgate Barn, a spectacular new home in the Hertfordshire Green Belt. Gaining such planning permissions requires a very considered design and of course, a strong planning strategy. Whilst permissions are allowed in the Green Belt, it is not easy. Over 20 years, despite working in such complex locations our success rate is still over 75%, an achievement we very proud of and look forward to many more.

Clear Architects are incredibly proud to announce we have achieved an impressive EPC Rating of 92 on our mid-century upgrade. This project started as an EPC E Rating at 54.

We believe beautiful design should also perform. Our designs embed high environmental standards; they are not added on but form the very basis of our concept designs. We aim to deliver homes that are not only extraordinary to live in but also exceptionally sustainable. This is living proof of that.

Room with a view. Working in areas like Green Belt, quite often allows our new build-designed homes to capture some of the most magical views from the bedrooms or sometimes, if an upside down house, the living spaces. We are very proud to have been short-listed for the Housing Design Awards 2026 for our small brownfield development project, Coach Yard!

The 5 new build houses are set on the site of a former factory/workshop building and are in fact built within its perimeter walls and off its existing floor slab, which were left standing for over a decade after the roof was removed. The complex nature of this design embodies solving – overlooking, sustainable design, low carbon, SUDS, resulting in a scheme that is exemplary, resulting in a 62% reduction in carbon emissions, greatly exceeding The London Plans 35% requirement. It has provided 5 stunningly bespoke homes in the heart of Leyton, East London.

Once the planning is granted, the detail design begins! We have a wide team of varied
professionals who help us deliver our designs in real life as part of our delivery stages on a project.
This stage can take many months as we lead the project into a compliance stage for Building
Regulations, architecture it is not just coloured images. The final set of documents includes drawings,
schedules and specifications that gain Building Control Plan Check stage and then go to tender with
a contractor or contractors of choice. Exciting times for our latest Brentwood project!

We are so very nearly there on our ‘not so boring box project’ so have decided to share some full colour images to gain a full appreciation of its development! The sumptuous arches have created a special corridor leading to the play area/snug and the main kitchen/diner extension. The interconnectivity between rooms will ensure these cleverly lit internal spaces (that can sometimes be so dark if not thought through when extending to the rear of a property) become the hub of the family home.

A new era is born for this Edwardian house with new modern spaces representing today’s living needs, all beautifully presented with the interiors by Daniela.

Excited to share the latest Clear project to be submitted into the planning system. Set adjacent to an SSSI in Essex, the contemporary design is one of our most collaborative.

Working with highly regarded, award-winning sustainability expert engineers Webb Yates, we have developed the most sustainable home in line with LETI standards, whose form is embedded within the site’s natural topography. Our work over the last decade has put sustainability at the forefront of our designs. This home (should we gain planning permission) will be the most energy efficient new build we have ever designed.

The site was already filled with nature, our architecture has been informed by the trees and ecology methodology. Match Landscapes have designed an incredibly sensitive natural landscape within the residential garden space.

Let us hope the planning team at Chelmsford support this most unique of home designs!
