The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is where the very highest standards of horticulture come together in celebration of this truly rewarding way of life. As a horticultural student attending my first Chelsea, it absolutely lived up to everything I imagined and more! 🌱

I was incredibly fortunate to volunteer on the Plant Heritage “Missing Collectors Garden”, which also gave me the opportunity to explore the show, network with people at the very top of their field, and even be introduced to horticultural royalty like Carol Klein (something I never imagined would happen!)

It was genuinely the best day, and I came away with so much inspiration for the spaces I hope to curate in the future. 🪴🌺😊

The Plant Heritage 'Missing Collectors
Garden' at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show! 🪴🌺🌱

This garden tells such an amazing story as it celebrates the work of Plant Heritage and highlights plants that are still missing from the National Plant Collections scheme, including Verbascum and Aquilegia.

You can vote for this incredible garden in the People's Choice Award under the "All About Plants" category until 8pm on Thursday 21 May. To cast your vote, visit the RHS People's Choice voting page!

On Friday I joined a youth workshop at City Hall hsoted by Mete Coban (Deputy Mayor of London for Environment and Energy) and the GLA team helping shape the London Climate Action Plan. It was a really positive and constructive day bringing together young people from across London to discuss climate action, what a greener and fairer city could look like, and the principles that should guide future decisions. Through open discussions and activities, we explored both the progress already being made and the challenges still ahead. Really encouraging to see young voices being listened to and included in future policy that will help shape London’s future.

On Wednesday, Anja, Ellie and I presented the external Youth Council report to the Kew Executive Board, reflecting on our pilot year and the impact we have had on the organisation.

Our first year, chaired by Anja, has been a real success. We've contributed to consultations on a range of topics, attended and spoken at numerous events, and even hosted our own event, which brought together so many young people to inspire them to care for plants and fungi, and maybe even chose a career that safeguards them. (And so much more)

The report doesn't just celebrate what has gone well, it also honestly reflects on the frictions we've faced, what needs to change at Kew for the Youth Council to have a greater impact, and how the Executive Board can support that going forward.

I'm pleased to say the report was received very positively, and our priorities for year two have been taken on board. I'm excited to share it with the Board of Trustees next.

I honestly feel very privileged to be chairing this amazing group of people going into our second term. 🌱
