Founded by Daniel Hopwood in 1993, the studio is a multi-disciplinary practice that includes interior designers as well as architects and landscape architects. The aim is to remain a small, bespoke studio offering clients a creative and practical, but ultimately very personal, design service. Projects are a mixture of residential and commercial work. Over the years we have worked on restaurants, b

oth budget and Michelin starred, hotels from boutique to luxury 5-star, and private members’ clubs. Personal recommendations form a great part of our heritage and private clients often return when they move home or their family grows.

Take a look at the link above if you’d like a peek inside my studio. Hidden in plain sight in Marylebone, spot the brass plaque, just moments from Baker Street, it may sit in the heart of central London, but inside, it’s a haven of tranquillity, creativity, and a lot of fun.
It’s not what you’d expect an office to look like… but then again, I doubt you’d expect anything ordinary.

Please use the link above to read my conversation with London & Avalon, my favourite bed linen supplier, where we talk about my approach to bedroom design and the art of bed dressing.

Good bed linen is the quiet foundation of a room.
It doesn’t shout, instead it holds everything together.

Timeless.
Tactile.
Effortless. photography

Early in the year I often take a flight away from Europe, not to lounge on a beach, but to explore, to experience other cultures, wander ancient monuments, discover local art and crafts, and just soak in the way people live.

This time, I’ve been to Rajasthan, India, a place both challenging and endlessly rewarding. Everywhere I looked, there was something else to see, admire, and learn from learn from.

What stayed with me most was the colour. The everyday colour — applied with joy, with delight, with no hesitation. It’s a reminder that colour isn’t just decoration; it’s a way of life.

Here’s a shot that I took in Jaipur. That sienna doorway framing the mauve interior was sensational.

One of the greatest privileges of my work is being invited back.
I’ve worked with many clients over decades, returning at different stages of their lives to adapt their homes; sometimes in a new house, sometimes revisiting an original design 10–15 years on.

What I’m proudest of is that the original spaces have stood the test of time.
Usually, it’s only the technology that dates — the design endures.

This one is particularly personal to me.

I do enjoy a Friday as that’s the day for my weekly round of site visits around London. Discussing the project, solving the issues with a great team of contactors and craftsmen. An interior designer or architect is as only as good as the building team around them. Such talented people take a while to find and nurture; they are highly valued and respected.

Do tell me, what were your first inspirations in interior design? For me it was opening the first ever copy of what is now called in 1981 . There I discovered I was mesmerised by her incredible styling with layers of exotica blended with classic British interiors. True escapism for me, a simple Yorkshire boy. I loved how she incorporated black into a scheme often deeply lacquered to create moody rooms and her use of over scaled plantation shutters, those were quite a rarity in those days, to use as room dividers. To this day I refer to that inspiration as you can see here, I’ve used sliding shutters to separate the TV room from the formal living room without fully closing off from each. Once slid closed, the space becomes it own, richer and darker, an ideal place to watch a late-night film. Click on the link above to see more of this Chiswick based project. Abundance,

Here’s a lovely spring time project and one of my latest.

There can be nothing more joyous than creating a home for a young and expanding family.

The house is a fine Edwardian villa in the leafy suburbs of Chiswick.

With some skilled engineering work, which included removing part of an external wall and moving the staircase to the basement, we managed create rooms that flowed between each other, creating a large family kitchen on the raised ground floor together with playroom, a sizable guest cloakroom, a TV room, and an elegant drawing room. With the use of sliding louvre doors, spaces could be made more intimate and private when need be.

The ultimate gem was converting the basement into an entertainment room. This space has everything a family could dream of. A fully functioning bar, a billiard table, and, with a push of a button, curtains close to create a cinema with tiered seating to lounge on with the family.

With the considered use of practical materials, the fabric of this house will last without compromising that touch of glamour that we all need in our lives.

Click on the link above to have a poke around our latest project. Studio Hopwood has been working on a mews house near Regent’s Park. As part of grand house, its where the grown-up kids have fun and have their friends round. Each bedroom has been tailored around each family member, there is quite a contrast between them.
