FOLIAGE FAUX PAS? 🌿👀- Artificial plants get a bad rep….. At least we’ve seen a lot about this recently. And yes, we still love our real houseplants and yes, we know that the fakes are made from plastic! But our question is…. if the fakes are kept for many many years; is it not more sustainable than having to very regularly replace the real ones? Real plants that take masses of energy to grow in the first place (and let’s face it, arrive in the UK In non-recyclable nursery pots and trays) This question comes up on a weekly basis, especially when working in commercial spaces that simply aren’t ideal for living plant displays.💀
Dark, dry, hot and busy spaces just aren’t conducive to happy, healthy houseplants - their lives are often cut short and growth can be stunted and troubled…… and don’t get us started on the pests.🪳
Restaurants in particular prove to be very tricky at times. All that hot air flooding the space from the kitchens, confined spaces, lots of excitable diners brushing past the plants every single day…..a new houseplant display can quickly become scruffy looking and needs replacement despite all of our best maintenance efforts.💧
So it’s a real debate for business owners who want their space to look its best at all times, love having nature around but don’t want the expense of continuous plant replacements. 💸
We always advise to use replica plants in spaces that are either too dark, inaccessible or too busy - but for everywhere else, always use the real deal! 💚
