⚡ Safety First – Always Inspect Existing Wiring Before Starting Work

Before carrying out any doorbell installation, we always start with a visual inspection of the existing wiring.

On this particular installation, we discovered that the low-voltage cables supplying the doorbell had previously been damaged or become disconnected.

Rather than being repaired using a suitable electrical connector, the wires appeared to have been twisted together and secured with insulation tape.

While insulation tape is commonly used to provide additional protection, it should not normally be relied upon as the sole method of joining electrical conductors.

Connections that are loose, poorly secured, or deteriorated over time can lead to intermittent faults, loss of power, unreliable operation, and may increase the risk of electrical issues developing.

This is exactly why we inspect every installation before starting work. In this case, we isolated the power supply, removed the previous joint, re-terminated the wiring correctly, secured the cable, and carried out full testing of the circuit.

The repair itself took around 10 minutes to complete, and once the connection had been properly remade, the doorbell returned to normal operation and is now working as intended.

Sometimes the fault isn't the doorbell itself — it's the wiring behind it.

✅ Visual inspection carried out
✅ Power safely isolated
✅ Fault identified
✅ Wiring re-terminated correctly
✅ System tested
✅ Doorbell operating correctly

☕🐾 A Simple Sunday Morning in Epping Forest 🌳

Some mornings don't need grand plans.

Just before 6:30am, we headed over to Epping Forest with Rio and the girls for an early morning walk. Armed with nothing more than a takeaway coffee, comfortable shoes and a bit of fresh air, we set off to see what the morning had in store.

The forest never disappoints.

The woodland paths were quiet, the birds were already awake, and the lake was full of wildlife. We watched mallards drifting across the water, spotted a coot carefully protecting its nest and even saw one of its tiny chicks exploring nearby.

Only a few weeks ago, these same woods were covered in beautiful English Bluebells. Today, the forest has transformed once again into a sea of green leaves and woodland trails. It's a reminder of just how quickly nature changes and how lucky we are to have somewhere like Epping Forest on our doorstep.

For me, mornings like this are priceless. No rushing, no deadlines, no pressure. Just fresh air, family, Rio by my side and a good coffee.

Sometimes the best thing you can do for your mind is simply step outside and take a walk.

Wishing everyone a peaceful Sunday.

🐶 Rio certainly approved of today's adventure.

Well, here's one for the blooper reel! 😄

While carrying out a routine battery replacement on a Pyronix wireless PIR sensor, I decided to record myself on the ladder to show the process. After watching the video back, I quickly realised that pointing my phone upwards probably wasn't the most flattering camera angle!

Before anyone says it – no, I haven't put on weight... it's just the angle. Or maybe it was the short t-shirt. I'll let you be the judge of that! 😂

Rather than doing a retake, I've decided to leave it exactly as it is. After all, we're all human, and sometimes you don't notice these things until afterwards.

So go on then... let's hear the feedback, the laughs, and no doubt a few cheeky comments too. Just remember, while you're watching the video, the battery did get changed and the alarm is working perfectly! 👍

Catalytic Converter Theft – What Residents Need To Know

Over recent years, catalytic converter theft has become a concern in many parts of London and across the UK. Criminals target catalytic converters because they contain valuable metals such as platinum, palladium and rhodium, which can have a resale value when sold through illegal channels.

A catalytic converter is part of a vehicle's exhaust system and is typically located underneath the vehicle. Unfortunately, some criminals can remove one in a matter of minutes using vehicle jacks and battery-powered cutting tools.

Whilst we are not suggesting that catalytic converter theft is currently taking place in every neighbourhood, it is always sensible for vehicle owners to remain vigilant and take reasonable precautions to help reduce the risk.

How Do Thieves Operate?

Catalytic converter thefts often take place:

• On residential roads.
• On private driveways.
• In public car parks.
• In poorly lit locations.
• During quiet periods when fewer people are around.

Criminals may use a vehicle jack to raise the vehicle before cutting the catalytic converter from the exhaust system.

Signs Of Suspicious Activity

Residents may wish to be aware of the following:

• Individuals crouching or lying underneath parked vehicles.
• People carrying vehicle jacks, cutting tools or unusual equipment near parked cars.
• Sounds of metal cutting or grinding.
• Vehicles slowly driving around residential streets while observing parked cars.

Suspicious behaviour does not automatically mean criminal activity is taking place. However, if you believe a crime is occurring, contact the police immediately by calling 999.

Practical Ways To Reduce The Risk

Whilst no security measure can guarantee the prevention of crime, the following steps may help reduce the risk of theft:

✅ Park inside a locked garage whenever possible.

✅ Park in well-lit areas where vehicles are visible to residents and passers-by.

✅ Speak to your vehicle manufacturer or dealership about approved catalytic converter protection devices such as guards, shields or clamps.

✅ Consider fitting a vehicle alarm system that includes tilt or lift detection.

✅ Keep vehicle keys secure and ensure factory-fitted security systems are functioning correctly.

✅ Report suspicious activity promptly to the police.

How CCTV And Security Lighting May Help

Many homeowners ask whether CCTV and security lighting can help.

CCTV systems and security lighting may help deter opportunist criminals and may assist police investigations by providing footage or improving visibility where available.

However, it is important to understand that no CCTV system, alarm system, security light or security product can guarantee the prevention of theft or criminal activity.

Security systems should be viewed as deterrents and monitoring aids that may contribute towards improving overall security when used alongside sensible crime prevention measures.

Community Awareness Matters

One of the most effective ways to help reduce crime is through community awareness.

By remaining vigilant, reporting suspicious behaviour and sharing crime prevention advice with neighbours, residents can help contribute to a safer local environment for everyone.

Important Information

This article is provided for general information and crime prevention awareness purposes only.

The information contained within this article should not be considered a guarantee of security or crime prevention.

Security measures including CCTV systems, alarm systems, security lighting, vehicle protection products and other security devices may help deter criminal activity and may assist with evidence gathering, but they cannot guarantee the prevention, interruption or detection of crime.

The effectiveness of any security measure will vary depending on the property, vehicle, location, installation, maintenance and individual circumstances.

If you witness suspicious behaviour or believe a crime is taking place, contact the police immediately by calling 999 in an emergency or 101 for non-emergency matters.

We recently revisited a commercial premises where the customer had chosen to install their own CCTV camera after deciding not to proceed with a professional quotation.

The camera appears to be operational and serving its intended purpose.

However, during our visit we observed several installation aspects that, in our professional opinion, could affect the long-term reliability, appearance, and weather resistance of the system.

Some observations included:

• Exposed cable connections that may be vulnerable to weather and moisture over time.
• External cabling that could benefit from improved routing and cable management.
• Limited protection of connection points from the elements.
• A camera position that may be more accessible for accidental damage or tampering.
• Use of a consumer-grade Wi-Fi camera solution rather than a dedicated professional CCTV system.

To be fair, the camera has been mounted securely and appears to be functioning. The purpose of this post is not to criticise anyone's workmanship or purchasing decisions, but simply to highlight the difference between a DIY installation and a professionally designed security system.

When comparing quotations, it is important to remember that the cost of a professional installation often covers far more than just supplying a camera. It may include:

✅ Site survey and system design.
✅ Correct camera positioning.
✅ Weatherproof cable management.
✅ Professional mounting and fixings.
✅ Reliable networking and connectivity.
✅ Ongoing technical support.
✅ Long-term system reliability.

Every customer has different budgets and requirements, and DIY solutions can be suitable in some situations. However, where security, reliability, and longevity are important, professional installation may provide additional value and peace of mind.

At 360 Home Security, our aim is always to provide honest advice, transparent pricing, and security solutions tailored to the customer's needs.

Today I had to urgently use the washroom due to being diabetic. I politely walked into Starbucks and explained my situation to the staff.

The answer?

“No — you must be a paying customer.”

So to use the toilet, I had to buy a bottle of water for £2.38 just to get a PIN code.

Look, I understand businesses have rules. I understand toilets get abused and left in a mess. But surely there should still be room for basic human understanding when somebody explains they have a medical condition and urgently needs help.

It’s not about the £2.38.

It’s about compassion.

Starbucks… you guys really do take the p**s.
