Snip snip snip, started before it was light this morning on a garden with far far too many roses, forgot to take an after photo of these 3 tidied up (I'll try and remember to put one in the comments next time I visit). Numb fingers by the end of this one, there was even a bit of snow lying around after last night's flurry.

Livingston daisy, a bit of a bu**er to transplant from trays because where the stem hits the ground it becomes hair thin, my first time growing these this year, they will be sown into cells next year to make life a little easier. Either way they're stunning so I feel like they were worth the effort.

Rosemary cuttings, each has a small amount of woody growth and a trimmed heel at the bottom. And the growing tips have been removed. Lost count after 20 or so. In a couple of weeks the first signs of root will be visible and I'll pot them up. You can go directly into compost or potting mix or even just straight in the ground, but I find rooting them into water normally gives more consistent results, no need for rooting hormone with rosemary.

Comfrey in between cuts

Rosemary, often overlooked as a structural addition to your herbaceous borders, the bees love it, and if it's cut hard it bounces back and fills space, it'll sit there happily giving structure to your herbaceous borders in the winter. Nearly as valuable as the more traditional box and yew. And of course if allowed to overhang paths it gives off a lovely scent when you brush past it.

I always leave an extra tray of beans to replace any that get slugged right after planting out, this year my beer traps did a good job keeping slugs and snails off the young plants long enough for them to all harden off , so this tray could have been thrown out weeks ago, as it was I left it next to my other baby plants that I grow to give away, so they got a drop of water here and there, no feed and they've produced a small crop, probably enough seeds there to replant my main crop and spares next year. Beans are so easy I recommend them as a first plant if you're just starting to grow your own veg.

Comfrey is a fantastic addition to your garden, this is blocking 14, it is seed sterile and does not spread vigorously via its roots like other wild comfreys, but it can be separated and propagated like a lot of other herbaceous plants. This is the one you want for making compost tea to fertilise your veg, or feed your fruit, it doesn't look like much right now as I dug it up the other day, broke the crowns apart and repotted, the dead stems are of no concern, and will make no difference to the health of the regrowing plants. Bin those chemical fertilisers and get some comfrey!

Getting back into the swing of things now with some of those early tidy up jobs. Happy to take a few new regular clients this year, and usually able to fit in one offs, so do get in touch if you need a hand in the garden!
