Life In a Birch wood
Birch, together with Willow, and Rowan, are 'pioneer' species that quickly colonise bare ground. Birch takes route readily in poor soils, and its almost weightless seeds are blown far. Its thin leaves soon rot, enriching the soil for more demanding species such as oak and beech; there seedlings grow into tall trees that deprive the protecting birch of light, eventually killing it. But provides food and shelter for a variety of animals birds and insects.

Silver birch
It's straight silvery-white trunk and pendulous branches make the Silverbirch one of the most decorative and easily recognised of the British native tree. Despite its delicate appearance it is one of the worlds hardiest trees, and in Britain, with Rowan, will grow higher up mountains than any other deciduous tree. It grows particularly well on the sand and gravel is a south eastern England, and is often planted as an ornamental tree in the garden and streets, where its small size is an advantage. The Silver Birch with a holly tree, revived by pagan Celtic and German tribes: in Britain the druins gave its name to midwinter month. The Birch was considered to have sacred powers of renewed and purification, so it's twigs were used in the ritual of driving out the spirit of the old year. The belief persisted into historical times, when delinquents and the insane were birched to expel evil spirts. The timber of a Silver Birch shows no distinction between heartwood and sapwood. it does not grow big enough in Britan for commercial use as timber. Birch twigs are cut in. winter to make besom brooms for garden and forest-fire beaters.

Getting to know your trees.

Maple Tree
The ordinary sycamore is an Acer, but so are many excellent medium-size trees with beautiful coloured foliage. The fruits brackets (keys) are an attractive feature, and the aces are tolerant of most soils and conditions.

Horse Chestnut Tree
The common Horse Chestnut is a Glorious site when seen in May- large candles standing erect about the branches each candle bearing white or pink flowers. But be warned this is not the tree for you unless you have a large, open space available. The large leaves and spreading branches mean that little will grow underneath, and a 60ft tree can shade out much of a modest garden.

Birch Tree
The Birch is quite right what is the favourite specimen trees. It's graceful growth habit is enhanced by attractive bark which is usually but not always white. Yellowish green male and female catkins are born in the spring - the saw edged diamond shaped leaves flutter in the summer winds and turn yellow in the autumn. They are not difficult trees to grow - all very hardy and thrive in a wide range of soil types - but you must remember that there are shallow-rooted. Do not under plant them and watering will be necessary during a period of prolonged drought.

Oak Tree
With his massive frame and border, dome shaped head, it's wavy-edged leaves and neat acorns sitting in knobbly cups, the Oak is a basic part of our countryside. The leaves maybe oval (Holm Oak )or long and narrow (Willow Oak). The Acorn cups maybe mossy (Turkey Oak) or the foliage may turn bright scarlet in autumn (Red Oak). Despite the variations many common family traits exist - large size, long life, foliage which casts filtered shade and a dislike of shallow soils.

What Is a Tree Surgeon and Why You Should Hire One?

A tree surgeon is also known as an arborist, arboriculturist or tree climber. If they work solely on the ground, they are called a grounds person. Tree surgery is a highly specialised job that requires evidence of the correct knowledge, skills and experience.

Trees can live from anywhere between fifty to more than three thousand years. However, the death of a tree is inevitable.

Some owe their deaths to infestations, others owe them too diseases, and others to climate change such as high winds. Now while you may think of infestations and tree diseases in the context of a forest, know that your backyard trees are not immune to disease-induced death either.

It is for this reason (among others), that timely visits from a tree surgeon are not only recommended but essential to ensure the vitality of your trees and the safety of your home.

Overall, tree surgery is about the sustainable management of trees. They are qualified to give you advice on how to care for and meet the daily needs of your trees. In a nutshell, they serve as your go-to expert for everything that has to do with the care of large trees.

This article takes an in-depth look into what a tree surgeon does while exploring the many benefits of hiring one.

The Benefits of Hiring a Tree Surgeon

The average person, with a fair amount of research, might be able to perform the daily care required to maintain a large tree, however, over time things can get a little more complicated.

That is where hiring a tree surgeon can help.

Eliminating Safety Hazards

Tree surgeons have the experience and the knowledge it takes to identify potential hazards. They will be able to sport the early warning signs that a tree is likely to fall during a heavy storm, or that it poses a fire hazard to your home. Furthermore, they will then be able to carry out the entire tree removal process to ensure that you and your home are protected from any preventable tree-related accidents.

Tree Care Done Right

A tree surgeon will be able to accurately assess the health of your trees and give them the care they need to thrive in their surroundings. They will give you valuable insights and advice on what you can do to improve the appearance of your trees and ensure that they lead a healthy, long, and vibrant life in your yard.

This can be especially helpful if you have a variety of trees that require different types of care. A tree surgeon will be able to give you specialized recommendations for each tree type based on the climate you live in, the type of soil you have and the nearby environment.

Spotting the Early Signs of Disease

Your trees are prone to all kinds of diseases and infestations. However, the earlier you spot the signs of tree diseases, the easier they are to treat. Ensuring frequent visits by a tree surgeon will not only allow you to take preventative measures but will also be a great way to give any infected trees the best possible treatment at the earliest signs of infection.

This will allow your trees the opportunity to make a quick recovery and will also prevent the spread of these diseases to other trees within your garden.

Trimming and Organizing

In the initial stages of growing and planting trees, it can be difficult to gauge how these saplings will eventually affect the aesthetic and landscape of your garden. However, a tree surgeon can help you plan your yard, or garden to ensure that you get the most out of your space.

Additionally, a tree surgeon is also equipped for performing various tree grooming functions like trimming, pruning, branch removal, and more. These are all essential practices required for the proper maintenance of any yard.

Advanced Tools and Other Equipment

Large trees require complicated machinery and equipment. The wrong tools can cause irreparable damage to the tree. Improper usage of equipment is a safety hazard for the person using it as well as the people around them.

While the average person does not possess the tools nor the expertise to use these tools efficiently, a tree surgeon certainly does.

Save on Future Costs

Hiring a tree surgeon will only help you save money in the long run. Proper maintenance will result in fewer instances of disease and lower the likelihood of tree-induced injuries or accidents. Due to the variety of services, they offer, they serve as an all-in-one solution to a variety of tree-related problems.
