Urgent Christmas Toy Appeal
Dear community we have an urgent appeal. This year more than ever we are helping families try to deal with the cost of living crisis and as part of this support, we aim to provide a toy to every child that would otherwise be without. It is truly heartbreaking to see the sheer numbers of children within our community face such a tough time, especially at Christmas.
We know times are hard but we are reaching out to you incredible people. If you can donate a brand new unopened toy to our appeal we would be so very grateful.
Other items to donate are the luxury items such as crisps cakes chocolates and other nice goodies

If you see this unusual moth in your garden - the Box Tree Moth - as we did, and have a privet/box hedge or topiary you will be well advised to check it for caterpillars / pupa as box is literally their favourite lunch. The caterpillars can do a lot of damage in very little time and will kill privet if left to do their thing. I chose to give my box topiary a very big haircut. If you need to look up how to treat this check out this post on Gardeners World. They are an invasive species and sadly not a welcome visitor. Good luck. X

Gardens may be beginning to slow down as we go through autumn into the colder months, but there are lots of jobs that we can be doing to make our lives easier and gardens more beautiful in Spring:

🌷Plant winter bulbs whilst the soil is still warm enough

🪺Trim hedges ready for Springtime when birds and other animals become more active

🍀 Clear existing borders of perennial weeds and mulch around shrubs and herbacious plants

🪴Move herbacious plants and small shrubs if desired

🪻Create new borders ready for spring planting

🌳Plant bare root trees, hedging and shrubs (from November through to March)

🦔 Clear paths and lawns of leaves to maintain good hygiene in the garden (but leave or create an untidy corner for wildlife over winter).

🏡 Spend time on landscaping projects such as paths/ponds

I always think you can never have enough flowers so it was time to create another border. Here’s the before and after photos. Next Spring it should fill out loads and keep the bees busy 🐝
