Broad bodied chasers are starting to emerge from our pond which is amazing as the ponds were only filled last April. As they say, “if you build it, they will come”.

Awhile since I posted. A project from altering the access from the car park field into the meadow and ponds removing the need to walk along the very narrow lane.

A tricky bridge build using hedgerow timber and a beam cut from a windfall oak on a neighbouring farm.

Started in the autumn 2025 but due to the very wet winter we had in the South West, I don’t think there was a day since Christmas where we didn’t experience rain at some point in that 24 hr period.

Finished at last. Thanks for the patience 😁.

A day to remember after a few grey ones down here on the Devon/ Dorset border.

The pinks/oranges and blues in the sky along with yellow leaves of the Betula ermanii greyswood hill hanging on after a few windy days.

We eventually got to the Picton Garden and old court nursery at the weekend, a place I have been trying to visit for sometime. It didn’t disappoint, in fact it was a garden for all seasons, with layers of planting from mature trees down to bulbs and corms with everything in between. Not just the daisies it is renowned for. Though at this time of year they are the highlight and will only get better with the New York Asters blooming in the next few weeks. The pollinators already enjoying the feast.

I must apologise to Helen for my millions of questions on asters. Sorry Helen. Thanks for all the advice.

A lovely day out on a beautiful summers day with team at . Some fantastic tree specimens and parkland vistas along with summer plant inspirations for the increasingly dry springs and summers we seem to be getting.

The new sunken garden has started to fill out and it will be interesting to see what the persistence of some of the plant choices is in the 10cm cover of local sandstone growing medium over the next few years. Absolutely loved the repetition of the orange kniphofia and echinacea popping off the purples and lilacs. Absolutely stunning but I do have a thing for complementary colour combinations. All interesting stuff.

I wasn’t so keen on the crushed rubble garden as this was dominated by eryngiums and I love eryngiums. Eryngium giganteum seemed to be taking over too much.

All in all a lovely day.

Styrax japonicus at the peak of its flowering period which will last another week. A beautiful tree we have inherited and both love. Well apart from the constant hum of the bees by our bedroom while it’s in flower. Which shouldn’t happen according to website which suggests it has no wildlife benefit. Goes to show you can’t believe everything you read on the internet. 🤣🤣🤣
