My current job has been pretty challenging thanks to the weather being baking hot one moment then tipping down with rain the next!

Thankfully I got most of the paint and masonry repairs done last week so I'm currently focusing on the windows which are all in desperate need of repairs and sprucing up.

Fingers crossed for a few dry days or at least not torrential downpours like yesterday!

I started this week off by helping a lovely couple I was working for in December by decorating their newly purchased bungalow to freshen it up.

They had just had a new kitchen fitted and honestly I was quite shocked how the company fitting it never suggested getting the walls skimmed prior to the units being fitted....

The customer called me several weeks back to ask if I'd be able to decorate it but there was a lot of damage to the walls plus old tile adhesive and a multitude of issues that meant a lot of prep work was required.

As I had limited time I gave them the number of another plasterer I recommended so I could just come in and decorate but sadly they went with someone who worked for the kitchen fitters and the results were not good and have taken a lot of work to neaten up.

If I recommend someone its because I know their work is good and therefore will require less time to get to the next stage which usually saves you money!

I've spent a lot of time messing about with the finish of this plaster trying to even it out within the days I'd allocated as it was very lumpy.

I totally appreciate the cupboards being in situe has made life much more difficult but that shouldn't affect the middle of the walls which were worse than the edges!

Anyway, please do try and look at trades previous work and recommendations if you can and if your decorator recommends particular trades people its for good reason ;-)

One of the rooms I've been working on in a 3 bed house in St Denys.

Unfortunately the tenants left the place in a bit of a mess so there has been a lot to rectify to get it back to a nice condition again but I'm really pleased with how the living room has turned out as there were a lot of d***s and cracks in the walls as well as lumpy paint finish to contend with!

I've recently been helping a customer get their new shop in The Marlands Shopping Centre in Southampton ready for the signage to be put up outside and for decals to be applied on the walls inside taking it from hot pink to a classy grey!

The shopping centre has strict rules, so working on the exterior of the shop can only be completed before or after the centre is open which has meant a late finish and some early starts for me as despite the paint being great (Armstead Trade) it still requires decent drying time between coats for the best finish.

So if anyone needs luggage storage check them out! Could also be handy for bikers needing somewhere to store their gear whilst wandering around in Southampton if you don't have luggage or want to leave gear locked to your bike ;-)

Last weeks job was working on this cute room in a lovely little cottage in Pennigton.

There was some evidence of previous black mould in places and several lumpy bumpy areas beneath the lining paper as well as a few sections that were loose and seems that weren't stuck down very well.

I removed the lining paper from one area entirely and skimmed the wall to even out all the old repairs which were solid, just not very neat.

I'm a big believer in if it ain't broke, don't fix it which is helpful to most customers as it keeps the time required on the job down saving them money and creates the least amount of disruption.

So we agreed to leave the lining paper in place elsewhere as it was likely to create a lot more repair work and was reasonably smooth over the majority of the room.

When I do tell customers something does need rectifying properly, its because it genuinely does, not because I want to create more work for myself which in turn costs the customer more.

The customer wanted to create a cosy and feminine space for her bedroom whilst retaining the cute cottage feel and chose a dusty pink for the walls and ceiling in a durable finish so condensation if it occurs in the future can be wiped away without marking the paint and a contrasting pink for the woodwork some of which was still wet in my pics!

I've had another busy few weeks working between three properties.

The start of this week saw me back at this lovely little cottage that was in need of an exterior freshen up.

I started the job at the beginning of the month in an attempt to get around and under the wisteria painted before it started to bloom so this time I was just filling in the gaps above and below.

Due to the property already being painted in an impermeable type paint which had lasted well for a long period of time without being pushed off rhe surface, I suggested we use Emperor paint as it has a guarantee of 25 years and excellent coverage.

Due to the vegetation it was not the easiest job, so a paint that will last was an important factor!

The black paint on the lower section of the cottage was also re-painted with the lower bricks left unpainted to allow some breathability.

Today I'm back in St Denys to continue sorting out a property that was left in a bit of a state after the customers tenants moved out.

Sadly they decided to 'redecorate' at some point and made a very sloppy mess of it, but it is now nearing completion and looking a million times better! 🤩

On a side note, I am now booking ahead from mid July.

Feel free to get in touch to discuss your job!

It's been a fantastic week for working outside!

These windows were part of a larger job removing flaking paint and defective putty from multiple windows around the property and sanding, priming and painting bare wood.

I got to use Linseed oil paint from Brouns for the first time and I have to say it was fantastic stuff, very low VOC and breathable ensuring when moisture does eventually find a way in that it doesn't get trapped under the layers of paint which helps protect and preserve the wood.

A few more layers of paint are still required to build up to the manufacturer recommendation, but these windows are looking so much better already.

It's been another busy few weeks for me completing a combination of plastering, painting and papering at multiple properties.

Here are some pics from one of last weeks jobs in Totton, lots of peeling paint, cracks and dings to repair along with a freshen up of the ceilings and walls (paint still wet in pics and no woodwork on this occassion).

I've currently got some availability in April and May here and there if anyone wants any work done.

Just get in touch with some info and pics if possible to discuss/arrange a quote :-)
