Two successes. One week. One landscape that demands absolute care.
To start Chapel House is a reminder that delivering good architecture isn’t always about changing the design — sometimes it’s about navigating the process.
From the outset, the proposal was clear, carefully considered and well aligned with policy. The challenge came later, as the application moved into a prolonged and increasingly detailed review.
At that point, the choice became simple: adapt or accept refusal.
Working closely with our client, we chose to engage. The scheme was refined where needed, but the core design intent remained intact. What emerged was not a different proposal, but a stronger one — carried through with clarity, patience and resilience.
Planning permission was secured.
It’s a process that raises important questions about proportionality and consistency in decision making — particularly in sensitive landscapes.
