Did you know June 13th is King Charles' official birthday? 👑

As garden enthusiasts, we’ve always admired His Majesty’s dedication to the natural world. His stunning Highgrove gardens near Tetbury are a true testament to what vision and care can achieve! 🌿✨

It's also the day of the Trooping the Colour parade, celebrating His Majesty’s birthday in style! 🇬🇧

The Garden Elf team has a special connection to the estate, too. Colin and his family used to live just down the road. On more than one occasion, they even played 'cowboy': helping rescue the King’s (then the Prince of Wales) cows when they escaped onto local lanes! 🐄

It’s that same community spirit and love for our landscape that drives us. Whether you have a regal estate or a cozy townhouse garden, we treat every space with the same pride as if it were our own.

Wishing His Majesty a very happy official birthday from all the Garden Elf team!

If your own garden needs a royal transformation or just a regular tidy-up, we’re here to help.

Ever wondered how to make your garden more welcoming for everyone: from tiny bees to local hedgehogs? 🐝🦔 At Garden Elf, we believe outdoor spaces should be easy to enjoy and share with nature. Here are three ways to create a haven with heart:

🌸 The Pollinator Parade: Attracting bees and butterflies is easy with "zero-effort" plants like Alliums, Lavender, or Buddleja. They look stunning and provide a vital feast with almost no maintenance!

🦔 Hedgehog Highways: Hedgehogs travel up to 2km a night. A 13cm hole in your fence lets them roam safely. This is close to our hearts; Liz (Colin’s wife) and their daughter Izzy have rescued many hoglets over the years, and we still care for Bert, our resident hedgehog!

🌿 Easy Accessibility: Gardening should be a joy for everyone. Raised beds are a game-changer, bringing the soil to you and making weeding a breeze.

Need a hand creating your low-maintenance sanctuary? We’re here to help! WhatsApp us - 07482273669 to arrange a free quote or visit www.gardenelf.biz to chat about your garden goals. 🌿✨

Are those pesky slugs having a "slug-tastic" feast on your hostas again? 🐌

It’s tempting to reach for a quick fix, but before you do, have a think about the wonderful garden food chain right outside your window! 🌿✨

Many of our favourite garden visitors, especially songbirds like the thrush, rely on slugs as a vital part of their diet. By avoiding harsh chemicals, you’re not just protecting your plants: you’re keeping the local "bird buffet" safe and healthy for them to enjoy.

It's not just the birds, either! Our spikey friend Bert the Hedgehog and his pals are champion slug-snackers, working the night shift to keep your garden in balance. 🦔💪

At Garden Elf, we believe in working with nature, not against it. We can help you manage your outdoor space so it’s both beautiful for you and a thriving haven for the locals.

Ever wondered how our prickly neighbours get around? 🦔

At Garden Elf, we don’t just care for your lawns; we care for the little lives that call your garden home. One of the simplest things you can do to help local wildlife is installing a “Hedgehog Highway”: a small 13cm gap in your fence that allows them to roam for food and mates.

This is a cause very close to our hearts. In the past, Liz (Colin’s wife) and their daughter Izzy have personally rescued and syringe-fed tiny baby hedgehogs to give them a fighting chance. We even have a permanent resident, Bert, a disabled hedgehog who we continue to care for daily. 🏠✨

Seeing Bert every day reminds us why we do what we do. A garden should be a haven for everyone, including the four-legged guests!

Is your garden looking a bit like a mini-wildlife sanctuary after No Mow May? 🌿🦔 We love seeing those wildflowers bloom, but as we transition into June, it’s tempting to get the mower and strimmer out to tidy up straight away!

Before you start that first big cut, we’re calling for a little 'June Mow-on Pause.' That long grass has become a cozy home for some very special neighbours like Bert the Hedgehog and our busy bee friends. 🐝

Colin’s Top Tip: 💡
Please be extra careful with strimmers! Many wildlife rescues and vets see a spike in injuries this time of year from strimmers hitting hidden hedgehogs or nesting birds.

Before you start, take a quick walk through the grass to check for any hidden guests. For the first pass, set your mower blades to the highest setting. This gives any critters a chance to move on safely and avoids any nasty surprises!

We treat every garden with the same pride and care as our own, ensuring your outdoor space is a haven for both you and the wildlife.

Does the thought of "pottering in the garden" feel more like a chore than a joy lately?

We believe everyone should be able to enjoy their outdoor haven, regardless of mobility. That’s why we’re such big fans of accessible garden design! 🌿

One of our favourite game-changers is the humble raised bed. By bringing the soil up to you, we can take the strain off your back and knees, making it much easier to tend to your favourite blooms or herbs. Pair that with wide, stable pathways and smart plant choices, and you’ve got a space that’s beautiful, productive, and: most importantly: manageable.

Whether you need a full redesign to make things easier or just a friendly hand with the regular maintenance, the Garden Elf team is here to help. We treat every garden with the same pride and care as if it were our own, so you can go back to enjoying the view with a well-earned cuppa. ☕️

Hedgehog Awareness Week Continues - Suitable Food
Want to help hedgehogs in your garden?
Start with the right food.

It’s one of the easiest ways to support them, but it’s also one of the most misunderstood. Hedgehogs are insectivores by nature, which means they need protein-rich food to stay healthy, build strength, and prepare for hibernation.

Here’s what you should be putting out:
🦔 Meaty cat or dog food (wet or dry)
🦔 Specially formulated hedgehog food
🦔 Fresh water (always more important than food!)

Simple, accessible, and exactly what they need. A few extra tips to make your feeding station even better:
✔️ Use a shallow dish so it’s easy to access
✔️ Keep food in a sheltered spot (under a box or feeding station works well)
✔️ Clean dishes regularly to prevent disease
✔️ Put food out at dusk, right when they start to become active

And just as important…
Please don’t leave out milk, hedgehogs are lactose intolerant, and it can make them very unwell. Feeding hedgehogs isn’t about giving them leftovers, it’s about giving them the right support to survive and thrive. A small dish of the right food can make a big difference.

Hedgehog Awareness Week!

Ever wondered why you don’t see hedgehogs in your garden anymore? It might not be because they’ve gone… It might be because they can’t get in. Hedgehogs travel up to 2 miles every night searching for food, water, and shelter, but fences, walls, and closed-off gardens can stop them in their tracks.

That’s where hedgehog highways come in. A simple 13cm gap in your fence can reconnect gardens, giving hedgehogs safe routes to move, forage, and survive. But here’s the thing… One garden isn’t enough. Hedgehogs don’t recognise boundaries—so helping them really does take a village.

By chatting with your neighbours and creating joined-up access between gardens, you can build a safe network that makes a real difference. It’s a small action. But for a hedgehog, it could mean everything.

🦔 Could you create a hedgehog highway this week?
🦔 Or speak to a neighbour about joining forces?

Let’s make our gardens part of something bigger.
