Recent job completed in Prestbury 🌳

This mature eucalyptus (Australian gum tree) had significantly outgrown its location and was encroaching towards a neighbouring property. The canopy was overhanging the roof by approximately 3 metres, creating a potential risk during adverse winter weather conditions.

The tree had been previously pollarded, and we were instructed to carry out the same management approach, reducing back to the existing pruning points. While pollarding eucalyptus trees is not generally our preferred recommendation, we always work closely with our clients to provide the most suitable solution for their individual requirements.

The objective was to reduce the tree to a more manageable size, allowing the client to maintain it more effectively in the future.

All works were completed safely and efficiently using rigging systems, lowering devices, and controlled pull lines to ensure full protection of the surrounding property and garden throughout the operation.

At Mid Cheshire Trees, we are committed to delivering excellence from your initial enquiry through to the completion of all work.

We are seeing an increasing number of tree failures during periods of severe weather. In most cases, this is due to a lack of regular maintenance or a failure to identify early signs of poor tree health.

Importantly, an unhealthy tree does not always require removal. In many cases, there are suitable management options available depending on the condition of the tree. Removal is only recommended where a tree is deemed unsafe or poses a significant risk in the near future.

We offer a free site consultation, so if you have a tree or trees you would like us to assess, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your local specialists.

Oak reduction recently completed in Chelford.

This tree had previously undergone a partial reduction, leaving the crown unbalanced with excessive lateral growth extending over a neighbouring garden. The uneven structure not only affected the tree’s form but also increased the risk of failure over time.

To address this, we carried out a targeted crown reduction — approximately 1 metre on the client’s side and up to 3 metres on the opposing side — to restore balance and improve overall stability.

While a 3 metre reduction would not typically be recommended, in this case it was the most appropriate solution to retain the tree in a safer, healthier condition.

All works were completed in line with best arboricultural practices, ensuring both safety and long-term tree management.

This week we carried out the removal of a mature silver birch in Knutsford.

The tree was found to be significantly diseased, with extensive fungal growth identified as Birch Polypore, compromising its structural integrity and long-term viability.

Due to its location in close proximity to horses and adjacent outbuildings, full removal was deemed the safest and most appropriate course of action. The works were completed with a full dismantle and stump grinding to prevent any future risk or regrowth.

All works were carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with best arboricultural practices.
