O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;

Robert Burns should have visited us. He would’ve seen lots of roses and in more colours than just red.

O my Luve’s for Grange Farm Nursery
That’s full of roses every June.

When does summer start? 1st June? The summer solstice? Or when the first dahlia is in flower?

For me, summer starts when I see the plants I associate with summer starting to flower, and dahlias are good from now until the first frosts in mid/late autumn.

Surprisingly easy to overwinter, you only need to lift dahlias tubers in winter if you have a heavy soil, or one that remains waterlogged.

In many Malvern soils, protect the crown of the plant to successfully get the tubers to last yet another year.

For transparency, the image we have used this week is made using AI to amalgamate three separate photos of dahlias we have taken at the nursery on the day this post was published.

Last weekend may have been a little too hot to make the most of the opportunity for gardening, but we hoped you still managed to enjoy it.

This weekend is much more promising.

Hanging baskets are looking great. They add a dimension to a garden that is otherwise hard to achieve, lifting your eyes upward and softening hard surfaces.

It’s going to be a scorcher this weekend!

AND it’s a bank holiday weekend.

Bedding plants and vegetables are still hot sellers this week. The recent rain has also made the soil ideal for planting. Is this possibly the ideal gardening weekend?

Don’t forget to spend time enjoying your garden this weekend (we recommend Sunday, as we are closed so you can’t visit us), to take pleasure in your hard work and appreciate your horticultural achievements.

Bedding and vegetable plants are flying out the door at the moment.

Don’t worry if you’ve not got yours yet, there is still time.

Temperatures are meant to drop a bit this weekend but then will increase… ideal growing weather!

A nature related post this week, in honour of Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday.

Pinky and Perky are our resident collar doves, who return every year and have nested in the eaves of the compost barn again.

The photo is one of their fledglings (there are 2), still staying close to the nest while they find their wings.

Next time you visit, look up, to see if they are still around. Fingers crossed for a second brood soon.

A weekend designed for gardening.

Spring has been terrific so far this year and the nursery is so full of colour it is almost overwhelming to look at.

Bedding and vegetable plants have been very popular, thanks to the good weather, and flowering shrubs are having an exceptional spring.

If you visit us this weekend, let us know which plants catch your eye the most, but don’t forget, we will be closed on Sunday as usual and open for the Bank Holiday Monday.

When you think of roses, you think of David Austin.

When you think of clematis, you should be thinking of Raymond Evison.

6 decades of clematis growing and breeding that has produced some wondrous results.

Below is a selection of the Raymond Evison cultivars we currently have in stock, with a few more cultivars in bud and about to bloom.

January’s battle of the plants has begun!

The depth of winter isn’t a time when many plants choose to flower, but the Witch Hazel (Hamamelis) bucks that trend and is rightly a very popular plant because of it.

But it isn’t the only showstopper. Are you familiar with Edgeworthia? Requiring similar conditions, it flowers a little later than Witch Hazel, but also has an amazing scent.

When you call into see us, look out for these beautiful plants. They will add cheer to even the darkest of days.
