So, after a few days waiting for my carpet cleaner to be repaired (again), I finally managed to clean our cream deep pile carpet today using the Carpet Extraction Cleaner.
Oh it smells lovely. Now, I am supposed to use the manufacturers cleaner in it however it costs a fortune and it wasn't brilliant, and I struggled to get all of the soap residue out. That said, we adopted this carpet from the previous owners who had big dogs and liked wine just as much as we do, the owners, not the dogs. The professional carpet cleaner man failed to get out the red wine stain.
When I'd finished the expensive stuff I bought some, still expensive value machine cleaner. Apart from invalidating the V machines warranty it cleaned just as well and that was all fine.
We have 2 grandchildren, we have two grand puppies, both of whom when new deposited on the carpet.
Several weeks ago I spilled a full glass ( it was a big glass) of Tia Maria onto the sofa and carpet (Sofa is cream too) and on the same night, Phil spilled half a glass of red wine onto the carpet. I have no idea what we were thinking ;-) Being very tired I put a hand towel on each stain and stood on it to absorb the stains, thought it could wait till morning. Several weeks later........
Now, I know that for really stubborn stains one of the hand held attachments should be used, couldn't be bothered. Also I have learned today that I am supposed to use warm water, I have always used cold so went with cold again.
Now, the red wine stain appears to have come out, the Tia Maria stain was a tad more resistant. The water sucked up was as dirty as it usually is.
One observation and i suspect that the machine may have a blockage somewhere, much less water was pumped into the carpet, but the suds were present and the carpet is clean. I also noted that It was slightly easier to rinse with fewer suds, so I am hoping that the carpet stays looking cleaner for longer, any soap residue left in a carpet tends to attract more dirt.
And so, I am waiting for the carpet to dry and I will hoover tomorrow and report back :-)
