Did you know that many children who live in dense urban areas, may not have a garden at home or even have greenspace at school? Earlier this year, I visited Crown Street Primary School, Manchester City Centre's first school in 20 years which is built with no external greenspace. I decided to create a garden on the schools roof top help the children connect to nature.

The goal was to relocate my balcony garden exhibit from the Manchester Flower Festival and combine it with some seeds/plants that I sowed with the children.

BBC News came along our seed sowing workshop.

Last month I was invited to speak at the Greener Futures Summit during the Chelsea Flower Show to discuss the importance of urban greening.

At the summit, I met the team from .uk and discussed my roof garden project at Crown Street Primary School. I am delighted to announce that Bupa has awarded the school a grant of £3.2k to ensure the gardens continued success.

A massive thank you to the all of the volunteers, brands and businesses who worked together to help bring this project to life.

I look forward to sharing the garden's progress with you as I work with the school to continue developing the garden.

It took 2 hours just to lug 2 tonnes of compost, flowers, containers and equipment up to the roof but it was all worth it. "The Sky Garden", my exhibit at the Manchester Flower Festival was relocated to the roof top play area at Crown Street Primary School.

It's a school without outdoor space and many of it's children live in apartments. This garden will be a primary learning resource and will be the first connection to nature for many of the children.

A massive thank you to for believing in the project and donating raised beds, Vegtrugs and a potting bench to our garden. They are fantastic! thank you for our beautiful herbs and perennials. To everyone who donated or supported the project in some way. Thank you.

Lastly, thank you to all the volunteers who gave up their Saturday to help us bring the project to life. Linda & Karine thank you for being my rock over the past few weeks.

I am really looking forward to supporting the school over the next year and seeing how the garden will impact the school in years to come 💚

The Manchester Flower Festival might be over but the Sky Garden, is being relocated to Crown Street Primary School in Castlefield. The newest school in Manchester City Centre, only two years old. But the school has no greenspace and many of the children live in nearby apartments, most with no garden or outdoor space at home.

We're creating a mini garden on the rooftop playground to help the children learn to grow their own food & flowers.

A massive thank you to for our beautiful flowers/herbs and for our veg. A special thanks to for some amazing perennials too!

A massive shout out to for helping us our with some compost this morning as well as for veg/salad compost, and for some amazing new planters.

It's been a real collective effort to get this project over the line. Thank you for having us at the show and supporting the relocation of our garden

This was my favourite moment of the RHS - Royal Horticultural Society Chelsea Flower Show. 2 strangers bonding over the beauty of a garden.

This was one of the 11 Project Giving Back gardens and I got to film them and learn about each design.

Stay tuned for more 💚
