Before and after photos of a painted brick property we stripped the paint from the brickwork and removed any carbon build up restoring the brick to how it was when it was built.
Next door was previously painted and had been sandblasted which we can see with the damage caused to the face of the brick.
Sandblasting exterior brick destroys its hard, protective outer "skin" formed during firing. This harsh abrasion makes the soft inner core extremely porous, trapping moisture that causes severe cracking, crumbling, and long-term structural decay.
The dense outer surface keeps out water and wind but blasting strips it away. Exposed, porous brick absorbs rainwater, which freezes, expands, and turns the brick to powder, leaving it spalling.
Abrasive blasting methods like sandblasting, bead blasting, or soda blasting should be avoided on exterior brickwork because they permanently damage the masonry face leaving it rough, scarred and uneven.
Also abrasive methods can round off sharp edges and decorative masonry destroying their character.
Our process doesn't damage the brick or stone face therefore leaving the masonry fresh. Due to the paint not letting the mortar 'breathe', it causes the mortar joints to deteriorate and crumble, then raking out and repointing will be required.
