Ballbeard Farm, New Mills—a quiet reconfiguration in the High Peak District’s Green Belt.

This 19th-century farmstead holds deep architectural and landscape value. Our brief: connect two historic wings and improve internal flow, all while respecting the site’s heritage and complying with strict planning controls.

We delivered a scheme that:
Uses matching stonework to preserve character
Mirrors the original roof pitch for visual continuity
Falls within permitted development rights under Class A, Condition A.3(c)
Sits quietly in the landscape, enhancing rather than imposing

This is what we mean by context-aware design—where restraint becomes the driver of innovation.

We’re proud to share another example of DCA Studio’s commitment to quality, refinement and functionality.

This semi-detached home has been elevated with a carefully considered ground floor extension that introduces a light-filled, open-plan kitchen and living space whilst connecting seamlessly to a landscaped garden and outdoor entertaining area. The remodel enhances everyday functionality while preserving the character of the original home, ensuring the extension sits naturally within the rhythm of its cul-de-sac setting.

The extension was delivered with a precise brick match and a restrained material palette, ensuring the new form complements the original structure without compromise. It’s a subtle but deliberate move—one that reinforces our belief in thoughtful, context-aware design.

Internally, the open-plan layout flows effortlessly into the garden, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor connection that enhances both functionality and lifestyle. Accent lighting adds warmth and clarity, subtly defining zones while reinforcing the clean, contemporary aesthetic.

Larch cladding installed by the client with great precision! Each batten painstakingly set out and secured with hidden fixings

Installed on a black painted timber substructure. Insect mesh laid over the substructure to ensure no unwanted guests took up residence

Circular aluminium window set within wetcast concrete surround breaks up an expanse of brickwork

It was never the intention to add a brick soldier course band around the concrete surround but on site decisions with specialist subcontractors input has resulted in a quality interface between the 2 materials
