I attended a very interesting and informative course on Eco-Retrofit by the People Powered Retrofit by and over the past few weeks, which ended with a practical session yesterday learning how to apply external insulation and render to an existing house. Here is the fountain of knowledge and master of retrofit Nick Parsons at work, showing us how to apply lime-based render to graphite expanded polystyrene.

Retrofit of the country’s housing stock is going to be essential over the coming years, and techniques such as this will be critical in improving the fabric of existing buildings.
