"You have to pay a monthly subscription if you want a reliable video doorbell." 🛑 I hear this all the time from customers around Thanet, and honestly, I understand why. The major brands make it feel like paying a monthly fee for cloud storage is just part of the deal. But it is completely false. You can have a high-quality, reliable smart doorbell without the endless monthly charges. I install TVT doorbells for exactly this reason. They store your footage locally. You get the same instant alerts to your phone, the same clear video, and the same peace of mind, but you only pay for the installation once. Stop treating your home security like a TV subscription. What electrical or security myth should I bust next? Tell me below!

How to get a top-tier video doorbell without paying a monthly subscription fee. 🛑 Sick of getting locked out of your own doorbell footage because you missed a cloud payment? Here is how to keep your family safe and save money every month. 👉 1. Ditch the big-name cloud brands. I am Trevor, and I recommend the TVT Doorbell for my customers across South-East Kent. 👉 2. Store your video locally. The TVT system keeps your recordings on the device itself. No cloud, no monthly charge. 👉 3. Download the free app. You still get instant alerts on your phone, two-way audio, and crisp video, all without a hidden paywall. 💡 I recently fitted one of these for a family in Broadstairs, and they are thrilled to be saving over 100 pounds a year on fees. Which step of your home security are you looking to upgrade first? Let me know below!

You are away for the weekend, but instead of relaxing, you are worrying about whether the house is secure. 🛑 It is a horrible feeling. Leaving your home empty and constantly wondering if everything is safe, especially with the darker evenings. I see so many homeowners in Broadstairs carrying this quiet stress. But your home should be your safe haven, not a source of anxiety. Investing in a professionally installed smart security system changes everything. When I fit a proper system, I am not just running cables. I am giving you the ability to check your home from your phone, see who is at the door, and actually enjoy your time away. Stop letting worry steal your weekends. Send this to someone who needs a little more peace of mind.

"Changing a light fitting or adding a socket is an easy DIY job. I totally get why people think this. With so many online tutorials, it feels like a quick way to save money on a weekend project. But here is what those videos do not show you. One slightly loose wire behind the plasterboard acts like a tiny heater. Over time, it melts the plastic casing and can easily start a fire while your family is sleeping. The real truth is that uncertified electrical work is dangerous, and it can completely void your home insurance if something goes wrong. At East Kent Electrical Ltd, we fix DIY disasters every month that end up costing homeowners double what a professional installation would have been. What electrical myth should I bust for you next?

3 signs your consumer unit is outdated and putting your family at risk. WOODEN BACKING OR WIRE FUSES: If your fuse box looks like it belongs in the 1980s, it does. Modern units use non-combustible materials to prevent fires. CONSTANT TRIPPING: A switch tripping once is normal. A switch tripping every time you run the tumble dryer means your system is overloaded or there is a fault. NO RCD SWITCHES: These are the switches with a little T or Test button. They instantly cut power if there is a fault, protecting your family from shocks. Save this post to check your unit later!

We are heading into the colder months when we all use more power at home. My biggest worry as an electrician is seeing overloaded plug sockets in older houses around Broadstairs and Thanet.\n\nWhat is the biggest electrical concern in your home right now?

"You only need an electrical safety check when you sell your house."

I hear this all the time across Thanet. It makes sense because the only time anyone really talks about an EICR is when solicitors get involved in a house move.

But your home's wiring does not care if you are moving or staying put. Over the years, cables degrade, connections loosen, and those DIY jobs from the previous owner can be a real hazard.

The actual truth? Every homeowner should get their wiring checked every 10 years. At East Kent Electrical Ltd, we treat an EICR like an MOT for your house. It gives you absolute peace of mind that your family is safe from hidden electrical fires.

Don't wait for a house sale to know your home is safe.

Did you believe this myth, or have you already had your wiring checked?

We all have that one cupboard under the stairs full of coats and an old fuse box. But how old is too old before it becomes a fire risk?

If yours has a wooden back or old rewireable fuses, it is a hazard. I am Trevor from East Kent Electrical Ltd, and I upgraded three of these in Broadstairs just this month.

Have you checked your consumer unit recently, or is it hidden behind the hoover?

5 signs your home's electrical system needs an expert eye before it becomes a danger.

1. Flickering lights. If your living room dims every time you boil the kettle, your circuits are likely overloaded.

2. Warm plug sockets. Plugs and switches should never feel hot. If they do, it is a clear sign of a potential fire hazard.

3. Buzzing switches. Electricity should be completely silent. A buzzing noise means the current is arcing behind the plastic.

4. The fuse box keeps tripping. It is keeping you safe, but a constantly tripping switch means there is a hidden fault.

5. A fishy or burning plastic smell. This is the most urgent sign. It often means wires are melting. Call us straight away.

Keeping your family safe means catching these early.

Save this post so you know what to look out for in your home!

"I only need an Electrical Installation Condition Report if I am selling my house."

It is completely understandable why this is a common belief, as it is usually the estate agent or solicitor who brings it up first!

But waiting until you move out is a huge mistake. Wires age, connections become loose, and hidden faults develop behind your plasterboard over the years. If you only test your electrics every twenty years, you are leaving your family's safety down to pure luck.

The actual truth is that an EICR is about protecting the people living in the house right now. Here at East Kent Electrical Ltd, we find dangerous faults in everyday family homes all the time.

Stop viewing it as a box-ticking exercise for moving day, and start treating it as essential maintenance for your family's safety.
