Built in 1690, restored and extend in the 19th century, the Old Rectory now enters the next chapter with a contemporary kitchen addition designed for modern family life.

For this Grade II* home, the extension is intentionally subservient to the original house. Set back from the principal elevation and shaded with a deep canopy, it respects the proportions and rhythm of the original house.

The design focuses on simplicity at its core: a refined palette of high-quality materials and elegant detailing elevate the intricacies of the historic facade, which remains the focal point of the building.

We are delighted to announce we have secured Planning Approval & Listed Building Consent to extend this beautiful grade II* home in Oxfordshire.

Steeped in history the Old Rectory carries a layered architectural narrative that required a sensitive and rigorous approach. Our proposal carefully removes an unsympathetic later addition, replacing it with an elegant contemporary extension that distinguishes old from new, the simplicity of which enhances the intricacy of the original stone detailing and building form.

Designed as a threshold between house and garden this light filled space blurs the boundary to the outdoors, while natural materials ground the interior in warmth and texture. The proposal has protected the long term use of this heritage asset by introducing an open plan kitchen dining space which reflects modern day living and will become the heart of this family home - replacing a small back kitchen which did not reflect the grandeur of the house.

Geometric Cor-Ten defines the entrance to the Woodspeen restaurant, drawing visitors into the bar and restaurant beyond. A contemporary yet ageless addition nestled between the original eighteenth-century public house and the dramatic thatched dining space, the final of three interventions we designed at the Woodspeen.

We completed this restoration and extension project last year and we're really pleased with the results. The brief offered many challenges not least persuading the conservation officer the a contemporary addition to a Grade 2 listed house was needed. Our clients wanted to maximise the floor space that could be achieved on this desirable town centre site. We created a design that included a 3 storey extension and a new entrance accessed by a bridge over a glazed basement. The light filled basement rooms now have direct access to the beautiful garden. The house has been transformed into a luxurious family home complete with bar, games room, gym, stream room and cinema.

We are thrilled with the outcome of a project to design and build our clients a dream home. Originally The plot had an modest bungalow, our plans replaced this with a twenty-first-century house with dramatic living spaces while reflecting the area’s rural setting. The Cotswold stone is juxtaposed with contemporary features that lift the building beyond the ordinary. The dark grey rendered walls and zinc roof make a bold statement.
The design unites two barn style wings by a dining link that separates living and sleeping areas to impressive effect. Inside smooth polished surfaces create an easy flow throughput. The client commissioned a wonderful steel mesh staircase.

We are delighted that we gained full planning permission for this two storey wrap around extension in West Berkshire this month. The house is in an AONB. The planning officer commented that " the design is considered of an exceptional high quality and the three flat roof elements are considered to tie in the overall design of the extensions together" We are now looking forward to the construction stage and the final outcome
