Small hairline cracks can often be caused by underlying problems, in this particular case the previous plaster had completely blown. All previous plaster scraped off, a coat of tanking slurry to eliminate any residual dampness before replastering has solved the issues!

Here's a little bedroom, previously stripped walls turned out to be unsuitable for painting but all plastered out while keeping the existing coving and dado rail features it turned out great! Always nice to see the finished article!
