Kirby Architecture

Kirby Architecture Kirby Architecture is an architectural practice with experience spanning over two decades.

We are based in Suffolk but have projects throughout the UK & beyond. Every project from barn conversion, office building, residential extension, hotel, or place of worship, is approached with the same passion - to see people live, work and enjoy the spaces we create.

We recently carried out a site visit to one of our new homes with this one set within the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

This house has been entirely prefabricated in Poland by and will take just 10 weeks to construct on site — dramatically reducing programme time, improving quality control, and minimising disruption during construction.

The prefabricated approach has also delivered significant value for our Clients, achieving an estimated 30% saving in overall construction costs compared to traditional build methods.

At Kirby Architecture, we are increasingly applying modern prefabricated construction techniques across many of our projects — from residential extensions and barn conversions through to commercial office spaces — helping Clients achieve faster, smarter and more efficient buildings.

A fantastic few days in Tirana, Albania for the Kirby Architecture team on our latest architectural CPD trip.

From exploring bold contemporary architecture and leafy green historic streets, to enjoying amazing food, drinks, sunshine and a genuinely welcoming city — it was the perfect mix of inspiration, learning & having some fun.

Great people, great weather and a city full of energy and creativity. Tirana surprised us in all the right ways.

Well done to our lad - Andy Johnson.

Andy has just passed his Part 3 qualification to be able to now register with the ARB as an architect.

He has worked hard through his studies & we are very proud of him. His final submission was an exceptional piece of analysis.

Thank you also to those who have helped & directed Andy through his studies.

Top work AJ!

A new project instruction brings a new chapter for this historic Suffolk barn as we convert it into a new family home.

With April marking the start of the ecological survey season (running through to September), now is the ideal time to move forward with barn conversions. From bat activity surveys to habitat assessments, these early steps are essential in unlocking the full potential of rural buildings.

Sensitive design, careful planning, and respect for the existing fabric ensure these structures can be brought back to life for modern use — without losing their story.

Thinking about converting a barn this year? Now is the time to act. Please do get in touch & we can guide you the steps.

We have recently submitted a planning application on behalf of Coastline & Country Homes for two new two-bedroom homes in Kessingland, Suffolk.

The proposals sit with an established residential area on an underused open plot. The new homes are stepped in plan and height to follow the existing estate grain & contours.

The proposals have been developed using a SIPs system to enhance the overall building energy efficiency performance whilst also dramatically reducing the on-site build-time.

Kirby Architecture attended the official opening of the new clubhouse over the weekend.

We have been working with the Club for many seasons and love nothing more than to see communities using & enjoying the spaces that we create.

It was also great to have a celebratory beer with Paul Fishpool from who we have had the chance to work with on the project.

We look forward to working with the Club on future projects.

We have recently made a planning submission for the conversion of a large grain store into a new family home in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

The extensive existing footprint has been carved & moulded to maximise natural daylight entering internal spaces whilst also providing exceptional views to the surrounding fields & valley beyond.

The materials & detailing take reference from a beautiful historic Dutch black barn located to the north of the site.

Lotty & Myles visited Framlingham College this week as part of the careers week.

They provided an introduction to architecture to Year 9 students. The students were then tasked with designing their own flats.

The designs & sketches were excellent & tested lots of ranging ideas & approaches.

Hopefully, we have convinced some to consider architecture as a future career.

And we are off…

Following planning consented in ’25, works have started on site for a new build home in the beautiful Suffolk countryside.

Drawing on the rich agricultural heritage & landscapes, we designed a home to be a contemporary approach to the historic Suffolk Barn.

The steel frame is key to the overall design and will be exposed internally. Mind you…the frame looks great without the building envelope!

It was great to see our Client, Ann, pop into the studio with cake & fizz to celebrate planning consent on her project in Carterton, Oxfordshire.

With unanimous planning support, the consented application will provide 18 affordable & market family homes.

Kirby Architecture designed the proposals to knit into the existing urban fabric whilst also focussing views to the nearby valley.

A significant open space also runs along the existing brook, which can be enjoyed by both residents and the public.
