Hi there ! Time to address the radio silence here at Rhubarb & Roses, we’ve had a nice long hibernation this winter period, predominantly due to a mix of personal reasons and natural slowing of our business this time of year. BUT we’re back ! We’re still promoting eco conscious practices and having a giggle along the way as always.

That said we have some sad news, unfortunately we are no longer involved in the garden project at Emmaus Village Carlton, so there will be no more project updates but needless to say there will always be love and appreciation for everyone we met and had the pleasure of working with there over the last year. We’re so very grateful for the opportunity and experience gained and have nothing but best wishes for everybody there, we’ll be back for coffee and cake as soon as we can but for now, farewell Emmaus - Thank you for everything

Sad bit out of the way, we do have some really exciting stuff going on this year and we cannot wait to show you lovely lot what we’ve got in store! Few tweaks and plans still to be made but all going well we’ll have some big things to share very soon :)

All our love - Cheryl & Millie

Design Highlight: In this lovely little garden we worked in stages to create a space that is beautiful, beneficial AND bountiful. This family loves to entertain so we created a raised bed full of gorgeous British natives along side the clients favourite aromatics to frame the patio and make a stimulating backdrop for their infamous gatherings. At the other end of the garden our shady boarder is gradually creeping further into the mixed lawn with each planting phase, leading your eye up to the gorgeous garden swing for those moments of quiet reflection under the climber laden pergola. A lot of the organic British natives used have medicinal or culinary uses, so with the right knowledge, the wildlife wont be the only ones reaping the rewards of planting native. This garden is a perfect example of phased planting to suit your budget as well as working with the growing calendar to achieve the your goal with the least impact on the planet and the most benefit to you and the environment.

Once again massive thank you to Dalefoot Composts who’s organic compost has gone into every stage of this design build. All the plants we got for this last planting stage were sourced locally from Blisworth Wild Flowers , they’re definitely worth a visit in the warmer months.

Design Highlight ! We don’t mind tooting our own horn, especially when its about a design as rewarding as this one. This garden design was brought to life by the fantastic New Dawn Landscapes and went through multiple planting stages earlier this year. We went back to see how it was getting on and WOW it surpassed even our wildest expectations. We couldn’t be happier with how all the plants have established and we owe it all to Dalefoot Composts their organic compost is the base of all our planting projects and the results are fabulous. Head on over to New Dawn Landscapes to see the bare bones of this now vibrant design.

Time for another Emmaus Village Carlton Update ! Things are really starting to move now and we’re so proud of the progress that being made. Loads of Mini Projects taking shape so we thought we had better show them off.
We’re really excited to have started the first planting layer of the Forest Garden, complete with charming loggery. Some of our projects are slightly less aesthetic but nonetheless crucially important. This month, with the help of our volunteers and the companions, we have successfully installed a far more effective water capture system as well as an industrial sized Hot Composting Station. All with the hope that we can significantly reduce the water usage and food wastage, reducing the sights’ overall costs and making us our own quality compost. There has also been some headway made in the development of The Community Gathering Space and The Forest Gardens’ very own wildlife pond. Lastly we had to include the fantastic up-cycled pallet fence built by the companions in our absence, they take our vision and make it a reality for us but more importantly for themselves.
Stay tuned for the many updates to come, we’re chuffed to bits with how its all coming on - watch this space !
