52 Sequoia sempervirens, Coastal Redwoods, potted up at little treehugs today. They’re faster growing and easier to grow than the giants, and the tallest tree in the world is a Coastal Redwood…these particular Coastals are among the shortest Coastals in the world 🥇
They’ll be for sale in the coming years at Treehug Nurseries.

88 Sequoiadendron giganteum (Giant Redwood) enjoying the sun, sowed on the 15th March, 2026.
In 2186 these will be the tallest trees in the UK, sentinels on the horizon🫡

The Giants are out enjoying a bit of early morning sun and a gentle breeze: it really helps in preventing the young seedlings from damping off. Since I’ve been doing this I don’t lose any 👌*

Just potted up my weeping willow cuttings, taken from a local tree around Caldecotte Lake. I soaked them for a few days in water just to speed up the rooting process: within 3 days they were starting to swell at the nodes. Now they’re free to root into the compost! These will be for sale at Treehug Nurseries next week at 6ft*
*they are fast growers 😅

I potted on some Ginkgo biloba yesterday. The seeds were collected from trees in a park in Shenyang, China a couple of years ago ✌️

Plenty for sale at the moment at Treehug Nurseries: especially good are some Sorbus aucuparia (Rowan) at 7-8ft+ just coming into flower (£35 each), Ilex aquifolium (Holly) at 4-5ft (£17.50 each), Liriodendron tulipifera (Tulip tree) at 6-7ft (£35), Acer platanoides (Norway Maple) at 6-7ft (£35) also beginning to flower and some smaller Cercis siliquastrum (Juda tree) at around 4ft (£20) covered in flower buds. It’s nice to see lots of my trees beginning to flower!

Pulled up my air bed oaks today: came up really easily and full of healthy fibrous roots. These had been in for two years. It will be interesting to see how fast they grow now that they’re potted up. I’ve potted up bareroot oaks before and the roots tend to be long and sparse on those, whereas these are ‘air’ pruned creating a more fibrous root system so should in theory grow faster and more healthily. Treehug Nurseries will keep you posted!

Giant Redwoods on the right, Coastal Redwoods on the left. Cold stratified for 6 weeks, came up in 2.5 weeks. I’ve not had this many germinate so quickly before and the only determining factor that was different this year, is that I sowed them a few weeks later.
These will be for sale at Treehug Nurseries in 2028 at 3-4ft for £35 a tree. Order now to avoid disappointment… 😀

An interesting order picked up today for planting in the Woburn area: 5 Sequoia sempervirens (Coastal Redwood), 5 Sequoiadendron giganteum (Giant Redwood) , 10 Arbutus unedo (Strawberry Tree), 2 Corylus colurna (Turkish Hazel), 2 Pinus armandii (Chinese White Pine) and 1 Cercidiphllum japonicum (Katsura Tree).
The Sequoias and Arbutus were all grown from seed which is particularly satisfying! When the AI robots take over, they’ll still be growing strong…
