Dawn Redwoods (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) from seed sown a couple of years ago: I love growing these! They grow satisfyingly fast and have an elegance that belies their vigour. We keep them in the semi-shade to avoid them drying out.
£20 each.

Scots Pines (Pinus sylvestris) at Treehug Nurseries.
These have done really well this year: all mine are from 2yr old bareroot plants potted up last year. They’re now around 5 foot and looking healthy!

Potted on my 2024 sown Sequoiadendron giganteum (Giant Redwoods) into 18l pots today at Treehug Nurseries. The roots looked great and the rootball held together just the right amount to be potted on. These will be for sale next year once the roots have filled the pot at £40 each. I have 80 more seedlings doing really well so I may well change my nursery name to Giant Treehug Nurseries soon 😆
It’s satisfying growing Redwoods from seed because wherever you are in England, if you look to the horizon you’ll probably see a Giant Redwood towering over the landscape like nature’s sentinels 🫡

52 Sequoia sempervirens, Coastal Redwoods, potted up at little treehugs today. They’re faster growing and easier to grow than the giants, and the tallest tree in the world is a Coastal Redwood…these particular Coastals are among the shortest Coastals in the world 🥇
