A new drive starts at the kerb. If your plans mean crossing the footway, that section — the vehicle crossover — needs a licensed contractor, council approval, and work done to the highway's standard.

We hold the Streetworks Licence and we're NRSWA accredited, so we do the whole job: dropped kerb, crossover and the drive behind it.

AI cameras are now spotting potholes before drivers feel them — National Highways is already using the technology on England's strategic road network.

We liked this one. Anything that helps catch a defect while it's still a small repair, rather than a big one, seems worth watching.

Fresh from Notting Hill: a private road and its footways resurfaced for main contractor Bancroft Heath Ltd. Hand work where the paver couldn't reach, machine lay where it could — SMA 10 to the carriageway, AC6 to the footways, rolled while it was hot. Not every job needs a paver. This access apron at a gas relay station near Chelmsford was all hand work for main contractor PP Construction Ltd — 100mm of heavy-duty AC20 binder under a 10mm SMA surface course, barrowed in, raked to level and rolled while it was hot. Small area, full spec. If you've got an entrance, apron or hardstanding that needs doing properly: www.edwardssurfacing.co.uk · 01296 714445

The best time to relay a school's courts is when nobody's there to use them. Four days on site during the summer break — two of prep, then a 6mm SMA surface machine-laid over tack coat, access covers re-bedded flush so there's nothing to catch a ball or a toe.

If your site has a quiet window coming up, that's the time to book surfacing. Free quotes: www.edwardssurfacing.co.uk · 01296 714445

Hot stuff. Around 150°C at the paver — and the clock's ticking from the moment it arrives.

Timing, weather and a practised crew decide the finish.

Not every surfacing contractor is allowed to work on the public highway. Dropped kerbs, footway crossings, kerb and pavement alterations — anything that touches council-owned road needs a licensed contractor, approval from the local authority, and work done to their standards.

We hold the Streetworks Licence and we're NRSWA accredited, so we handle that side properly — and a typical dropped kerb is installed in a day or two. At the other end of the scale, we lay estate roads for developers to adoptable standards, ready for the council to take on.

Need a dropped kerb or highway work sorted? Call 01296 714445 or see www.edwardssurfacing.co.uk/streetworks-adoptable-roads-services/

The driest weeks of the year are the right time to lay tarmac — and the right time to finally get a price on that drive, track or car park you've been meaning to sort.

A quote from us costs nothing. We come out, measure up and give you a firm figure in writing. If it works for you, we book you in; if not, nothing owed.
